MP3 CD burning problems w/ WinXP - Roxio DirectCD - EasyCD Creat

I recently bought a new PC with WinXP. I don't know if the OS is the cause of my problem, but here is the problem: on my old PC I burned mp3 cds using DirectCD, just making a normal data file. My mp3 cd player recognized these and functioned just fine. Now I have a new PC and when I try to burn a data CD with mp3 files on it, using either DirectCD or Easy CD Creator (data project) the CD is unreadable in my mp3 CD player. If I pop the CD into a computer's CD ROM drive it *is* readable and all the data is there. So my problem: why is my mp3 CD player not recognizing the mp3 CDs burned on my new PC? (BTW, the player still works fine and recognizes the cds I burned on my old PC. And, just to make sure it was not a player fault, I tested out my cds on a player at the local computer shop, and had the same results as my one at home).

With about 5 cds in the trash bin so far, I'm getting a bit frustrated. If anyone has any ideas, that would be a big help. Thanx.

CD music burner problems

Help! Is there someone out there that can help with my problem.

I have burned a lot of music cd's. Now after I burn a cd I have a scratchie static sounding noise at the beginning of the very first song. The static sound cause the cd to be scrapped. I have cleaned the cd rom with brush type disc cleaner but, do not know how to clean the burner, because it will not turn unless you are burning cd's. My pc is approx. 4 yrs. old pen.ll w/128mg. and 2 yr. old Sony cd burner. What could my unit be doing to cause the. "Help"

Re: CD music burner problems

I have a problem burning cd's. It seems that every mixed cd I try to burn always seem to have a static sound. I have many cd I have been trying to extract songs from, but it seem like once I put all the songs I want together and make the cd, every cd seems to have that sound. I'm not sure what the problem is. Cound you please provide some insight to the matter.

Thank you
Dominic

Re: MP3 CD burning problems w/ WinXP - Roxio DirectCD - EasyCD C

Have you tried the discussion boards at www.Roxio.com. Since your problem seems to be due to a problem with their product, you may find the answer already there.

wav to cda files

i may sound like a complete novice, but basically i want to put some wav files onto my cd and i am having trouble! i have a CD burner of course, but in what program do i convert the files?
please, treat me gently.

Re: wav to cda files

The simple answer is...you don't. You burn WAV files directly, using a program like Nero Burn or Easy CD Creator. CDA files are simply shortcuts which tell the CD where each track on the disc starts, finishes and so on (if you put an audio CD in your PC and open Windows Explorer, all you'll see is a list of .CDA files, each 1k in size - hardly enough room to put any music).

Hope that clears up the confusion.

Standard Midi Files

I have a Technics GA3 on which I can record my playing in GM but NOT as a Standard Midi File. Is there a program for my computer that will let me insert the Disc from the Technics GA3 into my computer and then save it as a Standard Midi File.
Dave.n

Re: Standard Midi Files

Should be possible if the computer will read the Technics format.. (what computer??). They might use MSDOS formatting which would be okay for Mac or Windows.

There might be something there for you..

Thanks for your interest Steve. I use a Windows type computer. With it I can format discs for use in my Technics GA3 organ. I can also make duplicates of the originals with the computer. I will check again, but at first glance I did not see anything at FORMAT CONVETERS that appeared to do what I wanted. I can over come the problem by buying a Roland keyboard, but as I already have a collection of top organs I want to do it a cheaper way if possible. As you may have noticed by my address I am in New Zealand, a small country. As yet O have not found anyone here that can help.
Kind regards. Dave Nicholson.

Re: Standard Midi Files

I should have guided you here...

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MIDI_PLAYERS_UTILITIES/

sorry.

It's a long list and I don't know the programs as I use a Mac. I suspect there is something in there though..

What sort of file is the GM midi file saved in? GM stands for General Midi and was a standard put forward by Roland (I think) some years ago. I think most Gm encoded Midi files should play with any midi file player... Worth a go.

I would download a Midi format convertor (I saw some in there) and then try the file with one of the downloadble Midi players.

Might work..

Let me know... Rimmer (SteveR)

OS X

I was reviewing the software on this page:

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/mac/RE-MIXING_DJ/

I see that some programs list their compatibility for OS X - does anyone have any preference to any of these programs?

Thanks,

-Matt

Re: OS X

I've tried Abletons LIVE and it's pretty amazing when you see it being used by someone that actually knows what they are doing.. Definately worth taking the time to play around with it.

Other than that, I generally only use Logic audio and some audio editors. Logic is bound for OSX (Apple just bought Emagic) and it should be soon....

Re: OS X

Rimmer,

Thanks for the info. That saves me a lot of time checking out all the different suites. Much appreciated.

Re: OS X

No worries.

Let me know how you get on with it. I was thinking of learning it a little more myself...

how to take profanity out of songs

Is there any software or hardware out where I can edit the profanity out of songs?

yes there is software to edit profanity out of songs

: Is there any software or hardware out where I can edit the profanity out of songs?

you can use cool edit 2000 to do this but you will either have to leave the whole song blank or with a bleep sound in the parts where the profanity is. you'll find it the the download area of this site.

you can't just remove the vocals without effecting the rest of the sound which is probably what nigel meant.

If you reverce just the small piece of time the word occurs in the rest of the music will still sound pretty good.

Software to record a band

Hi!
I just wanted some help regarding what could be the best easy to use, high quality software to record a band. Drums, Bass, guitars, vocals and a few synths.
I was very used to my multitracker Yamaha MT8X and so I was looking for something simple in use but that could provide high quality and that I could record all my instruments into.
Plus, I wanted to know if there's any special (and if anybody here recomends it) sound card with multiple in's to record a drum kit (about 8 mics) or can I just mix it through a mixer and get a cable going from the mixer into the input jack of my Sound Blaster Sound card?
Please help me on this one.
Thank you very much!

Re: Software to record a band

You could get a mixer and then mix to two track but if you make an error with the mixing, there is no going back.

The simple way is to look at Audio cards themselves. Most of them come with some sort of usable software which often has an upgrade path.

What computer do you have?? Check out the M-Audio Delta 1010 (or the LT) and see what you think. Remember, if you want to run mic's of the dynamic and condensor variety, you will need some decent preamps and a unit with Phantom power. The Delta 1010 has some great audio quality reviews and comes with Logic Delta I believe.

Other than that, you could use ADAT as an interface. It's an optical cable like the ones used with SP/DIF optical but carries 8 digital audio signals. I have an old Korg1212 with and ADAT in out which I have connected to a Fostex VC-8 break in/out box. The total inputs and outputs simultanouesly is 12 including the SP/DIF coaxial (which is well used). I wouldn't recommend buying the defunct Korg1212 now as there is little to no driver support. There are other solutions though.

Check out M-Audio's site. Some of their products are hot and reasonably priced. Remember to look for Mic pres if your using mics.

Mixing drums could be done with four inputs. Two overheads, a kick drum and a snare drum. Most if not all the drums will be picked up pretty well although it's not ideal. A decent treated room and four good mic's and it's possible. In this case, check out the Delta 44 or 66.

Ableton LIVE pre-listening/soundcard

Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to use USB audio devices (such as Roland UA-30) as a second soundcard for pre-listening in Ableton LIVE??

Master out: AV Mac soundcard
Pre-listening output (Ableton LIVE): UA-30 (ASIO)

Thank you! :)

Ozy

Re: Ableton LIVE pre-listening/soundcard

Sometimes you can assign output to both MacAV and an ASIO (etc..) audio card. I don't know a lot about OSX core audio but I suspect the option is there somewhere.

Try assigning both outputs..

music recording and editing

I would like to know what software would best suit my needs. I play guitar and bass guitar and would like to record songs onto my computer. I need a program that records my playing and offers mixing, a drum machine and effects to record my music. Any help and opinions in finding this desired software is much appreciated.
Thankyou Jacob

Re: music recording and editing

You could use n-track with a DirectX or VST plug-in for the drum machine.

I can't figure out who sings this song

To be honest I don't know much about this song, I saw it in Jawbreaker and Not another teen movie. It is the song where the witches of the school are walking down the hall and all I can tell you is that it goes...."I am cool I am cool" and that is about as far as the movies will let it go! I couldn't find out much more, I have looked on both sound tracks and found nothing.....someone please help.......thanks

how to convert quicktime to wav (or other sound) file for free

Hi,

Does anyone know how to convert the audio from a QuickTime movie (*.mov, PC format) into a WAV file (or any other sound file), without specifically having to buy software? I figure there must be a program out there or a trick that will do it, but apparently I have been searching in all the wrong places.

Thanks in advance,

C-
