Slowing music to assist in learning

I have heard that there is software that allows recorded music to be played at a slower speed while keeping the same pitch. I have also heard that there is software that will generate musical notation from recorded music. Anyone know how to locate such software? Thank you.

"acousitca mp3 audio mixer" can do it !
u can get it at:

Re: Slowing music to assist in learning

mp3 audio mixer can't notate songs, but it can change the speed of songs. it changes the pitch though.

Re: Slowing music to assist in learning

I seriously doubt the notation software although there maybe something available for reading individual notes out of a monophonic audio passage.

Slowing recorded audio is done in two ways. One, by pitch shifting which is slowing the recording down or speeding it up. Although this changes the tempo, it also changes the pitch which isn't ideal in most situations. The other way is to Time Stretch which is a clever process of changing the tempo without changing the pitch. This can be done succesfully to a point.

The best software I have ever used for the avobe jobs is the AmaZiNg 'Melodyne' by Celemony software. Problem: expensive. Even the lesser version for mere mortals.

I have come across some shareware or freeware packages. Amazing Slow Downer springs to mind.

p.s. Try the Melodyne demo if you can be bothered.

Mastering Demo Mix CD's

I'm wondering what the best way to get good quality sound on a demo mix cd. I'm just trying to promote DJ sets, but want to get better sound quality on my demo's than I'm getting.
I use a pair of technics SL1200's with excellent Shure cartridges, and a Pioneer DJM500 mixer.
I have tried running my output from the mixer main rca out, or the booth monitor rca out, at a fairly low volume. I'm running this into the line in of my sound card, and recording live to wav file using Audiograbber.
I used a low colume from the mixer, as there is no "Line Level" out on the mixer, and high volume distorts the recording even worse.
Anyway, once the WAV file is on my pc, I track mark it, and burn it to cd. However, the volume is often lower than a normal cd, both the bass and treble are muddy, and the music is generally flat and lifeless compared with the speaker output through the mixer(which is my guide to sound levels throughout the mix), or any other commerically mastered mix CD.
Sure I can up the volume using a basic WAV editor, but it does nothing to fix the sound quality, and generally makes the problem worse.
I can't really buy a new mixer with a line level output and/or a high quality sound card. So I am wondering which program, plug in or procedure can I follow to make the sound quality resemble a good quality cd?
Can I use a filter of some sort in one of the music composing programs, or should I use a different line in sampling technique for better results? I'm hoping there is some technique for improving sound quality on the resulting wav file?
Any feedback would be of use... Thanks..

Re: Mastering Demo Mix CD's

Considering that you claim it sounds great through the amp but poor after recording, it points to a couple of things. One, you soundcard.. Don't expect a lot from a stock soundcard. A decent Audiocard will reproduce a decent reproduction from restricted dynamic range (Lp's) signal if the level is correct and the sampling software is set to a high enough sample speed. 44.1khz minimum.

Recording at low volume to digital convertors has it's problems. Digital needs to be in the right place and rarely as high as trying to maximise levels on a cassette for instance. Head for Odb on the recording meter for Audiograbber (must have one) and see what happens. If it's still poor, then burn it to a CD and then see what that sounds like. If it's poor, then you have the recording levels wrong for starters. If they are right, then you more than likely need a decent audio card. I recommend the M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 as a decent entry level audio card that comes with Logic Delta.

midi? can someone tell me what to do?

I have been using fruity loops for some time now but I want to know how to use midi and if I can. I have a 'Sound Blaster Live! 5.1' sound card which seems to have midi programs included but I dont seem to have a midi port in the sound card, does there have to be a midi port? or can I use another port? (i was told I could get a lead which plugged into the keyboard port). I want to plug my yamaha DJX keyboard up (which I am told I can also do) is there any programs anyone would suggest which aren't to complicated?, cheers.

Re: midi? can someone tell me what to do?

The joystick port doubles as a MIDI port.

Re: midi? can someone tell me what to do?

can you buy leads that connect to the joystick plug and if so where?

Playing my own music on oridinary CD player

Hi. Ican record my own .wav files on to CD using Adaptec CD software (V3.5c), but when I play the CD on my oridinary Hi-fi I get a loud 'click' sound after the last track. I have tried closing the session and closing the disk after recording but that doesn't help. I haven't used the 'disk at once' method because I don't want to the lose the gap between each track. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? (The 'click' doesn't appear on the .wav track!)

Try using "Acoustica Mp3-to-wave Converter Plus" it converts medias without losing quality! You can get this software at:

Re: Playing my own music on oridinary CD player

maybe you should try mp3 cd burner. it will probably be better than the converter. www.cdburner.ca for more info.

Re: Playing my own music on oridinary CD player

Thanks, I dared to do DAO and it worked! Gap between tracks is tiny though, can you really set how long the gap is?????? If so how???

Re: Playing my own music on oridinary CD player

The clicking is usually caused by the laser turning on and off between tracks. This is common with older burners, or older software. Use DAO and you will be pleasantly surprized.

:)

And yes you can still keep the gap between tracks with DAO burning. It just means you can set the gap time to whatever you want, right down to 0 seconds (no silence gap).

Re: Converting hammerhead files to .wav files

Go to the file-menu and choose "stream to disk".
That should do the trick.
