Off topic - but do this for Christopher Reeve AKA Superman

On September 25, 2002, Christopher Reeve celebrates his 50th birthday. <a href="http://www.christopherreeve.org/petitions/petition.cfm?petitionID=1">You can help him out!</a>

Re: Off topic - but do this for Christopher Reeve AKA Superman

I always feel sad when I look at him. He is 'the' Superman for my generation. It just seems a shame to look at the fragile reality of human bodily failure when comparing to his indestructible fantasy counterpart.

Removing MUSIC from songs, leaving just VOCALS!

Is it possible to remove the music and be left with just the vocals in order to use them for remixing? If not, does anyone know where to obtain "acapella/vocals only" songs? I've tried IMesh, Kazaa, etc.... very limited if anything at all. I'm also trying to contact the artists and record companies, nothing positive yet, waiting for more responses..... please HELP. Thanks.

Re: Removing MUSIC from songs, leaving just VOCALS!

Generally speaking, no. You can always try with an audio editor, but you won't get near a perfect result.

queria ver la forma de poder lograr que arranque
gracias claudio
espero su contestacion.

Type 10 errors are caused by old software (software for non-PowerPC computers), or by a lack of memory for the Finder. This can also happen if your startup disk is locked during startup and the Finder cannot edit the desktop. I am speaking from experience, not as an authority. These error codes vary from system to system, computer to computer.

You should download a list of error codes if you can find some online.
I don't know of any sites that offer lists of error codes for your kind of system (it's new). But, I think you should try.

I would guess that perhaps something is using up too much memory or using it improperly (like some old software). Maybe you turned off virtual memory and there is now not enough RAM to load all of your extensions and control panels properly. Maybe.

Next time you restart, try to start with extensions off. You can do this by holding the shiftkey down during startup. If you need to turn off virtual memory, you can hold down the command key during startup.

A good way to cope with this is to try starting up without extra extensions and control panels. Just try running the most basic configuration. If this doesn't eventually work, then you might have more serious errors, such as a corrupted disk catalog or something.

If you have a startup disk, now is the time to use it. If you do'nt have one, you can download a startup disk from Apple Support. Otherwise, if you have a CD-ROM drive, you can use it. During startup, press "C". This will startup from CD-ROM if you have an Apple Restore CD-ROM

I hope it works out for you.

How to prevent crashes

If your computer runs out of RAM memory, you'll see the Blue Screen Of Death. The easiest way to prevent crashes is to install the correct memory stick upgrade for your system.
I bought 512 Megs of RAM from Crucial, and I've been quite happy with it.
Go to http://www.computer-memory-upgrade-stick.com
Choose the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard and the database matches your best upgrade. There are instruction for installing memory without a technician.

Yes - output from Microsoft products (including their
HTML editors!) is always a problem.

For that reason we don't use any Microsoft products to
generate HTML code unless they are passing data to our
own HTML generators.

However, we do get Microsoft HTML code sent to us a lot
so DEMORONISER might be useful for fixing up this stuff
which is a real pain in the neck to fix manually.

Thanks,
Jason.

cool.

You're welcome. I sometimes wonder why my posts look different on pages when I read them. Not usually here, but on other sites. Most often, the last few letters of my post get cut off, or HTML tags get broken. This seems to happen most on certain chat rooms. I had thought it was a problem with my modem's cache, but now I think it's with their server (the chatroom I'm thinking of) especially since none of my downloads get corrupted.

thanks for listening.

Macintorque
P.S. -
Actually, I've even turned off all handshaking and flow control on my modem once, and still not had any downloads get corrupted (but i did get a much faster connection speed!!!!!).

Korg Triron Pro, or Yamaha Motif8?

Hello. My name is Izzy. I record music and I want to go a lil' bit pro with it. Which keyboard is better? A Yamaha Motif8 or a Korg Triton Pro? Which has better qaulity sounds? Which has more sounds?

In my own point of view, the motif sounds are fatest and cleanest than the triton but I like the korg keyboard because has an excellent interfase...

Using an an audio recorder as a security tool.

As I've said before, there is quite a bit of overlap between digital audio technology and steganography, though most people wouldn't draw the connections. Steganography does not technically include file deletion or erasure, but the best way to hide a file is to obliterate it anyway, so by my definition, yes steganograpy includes file erasure.

Let's say you spent the summer downloading lots of pornography to include in your homemade MPEG music video. This is hypothetical, mind you. Everything is fine and dandy, (and randy) except that you've been using your Mom's computer to do this on. Mom wants her computer back because she lost an old cooking recipe file on her current computer and she wants to try to run a file recovery program on the computer you've been using to get back another copy. In a moment of clarity, you realise that if Mom runs her file recovery program on the system you've been using, she'll discover all of the pornography you've been downloading--even if you delete it all before she looks!!!

Here's a potential solution: (Mac: use Coaster. PC: use any disk recorder)

0) turn off virtual memory if you can. anything in "RAM" is actually written to disk if you have it on. Close down any other programs while we do this.

1) open up your favorite direct to disk audio recorder, and set it up to start running indefinately, using all available hard disk space.

2) turn down the volume and start recording. If you have a large drive, set it to run overnight.

3) check on it in when it's done, and confirm ZERO DISK SPACE LEFT.

4) now you can safely delete your huge audio recording and your system is now mostly clear of proof that you've recently deleted lots of porn files.

5) now is also a good time to clear your browser history and password files and all those other logs and history lists. If you have a PC this could take years if it is even possible. You might try obtaining a nice collection of Registry cleaners and optimizers to make the job thorough.

6) laugh

7) give your computer over to Mom and pray

If all went according to plan, Mom will run the file recovery program and not recover anything at all. She won't even be able to recover her old recipe file, even if it used to be there on an unused portion of the disk. You essentially wiped clean all of the extra drive space. This will not work if you are recording to RAM. This will also take a lot longer if your recording program records directly into MP3 format. In this case, you want BIG files, not little compacted ones. If your computer crashes during the process, this is probably because it ran out of drive space while using virtual memory.

I don't know whether you should feel amused or guilty or both.

Any resemblence to actual people or occurances in this post are merely coincidence, and should not be taken seriously. If you think that this actually happened to me, you'd be jumping to conclusions.

This procedure is not foolproof, and is undermined by various microsoft bugs, flaws, and security holes. I just thought you might find it amusing.

Re: Using an an audio recorder as a security tool.

There are applications that permanently delete erased files.. i have used a couple before on the Mac. Norton to name one.

Is this any different to the interesting solution you described?

Re: Using an an audio recorder as a security tool.

My solution is merely more sneaky and silly.

Re: it has other benifits

: My solution is merely more sneaky and silly.

While you're busy writing over old deleted files you
also get a recording of everything that happend in the
room while you were doing it - essentially you've bugged
the room, Norton can't do that!

Just for the ridiculousness of it all

Wow, that's a cool idea. I hadn't thought about that. Very funny.
Actually, probably a better techique would be to run a webcam with audio of the room. It wouldn't take so long to fill up disk space using a webcam recording both audio and video. Of course, just recording audio is quite a bit more subtle, an perhaps more useful as redundant and bogus data written to disk. Hmmm, I like your ideas. I'm not so serious about being so evasive, but it's entertaining to consider. If I had something seriously dangerous to hide, I most certainly wouldn't put it on the computer.

One thing I like to do when I'm borrowing someone else's computer is to create a writeable data image (editable "disk image") and store my questionable stuff there. When I'm not using the file, I disguise it as a raw audio file. If it is opened, it just plays some weird R2D2 noises for 15 minutes instead of loading my hidden directory. Well, I used to do that. I don't do that anymore, because I discovered that disk images leave tons of traces on a system and make file recovery very easy and reliable. I like to experiment with stuff like this, just to see what i can learn. Actually, I kind of like the sound of data being played, so I'll probably end up using a lot of pornography and in my stranger songs.

Re: Encore 4.5 - Windows 2000

Hello, I am not 100% sure if V4.5 will run on WIN 2000.
I presume that GVOX issued this V4.5 to run on various systems inc WIN 2000. This V4.5 does not have any other
main improvements on v4.2, which I have and use on Win 98. LIke all Encore users I await the alusive V5.

I hope this helps, you could contact
