Re: Quality of my cd demo

Get a good book on mixing and mastering. Almost all software is only limited by your brain and your ears. There is nothing magic here.

Re: Quality of my cd demo

well I can tell you, the best sound editing software right now is the "Pro-slapp bong poppy". It can be found at Musicmagic.com. The program hosts a gamit of new technical demensions to recording better sound structures. From the G-glue bounce back digital tuner copressors to the h667 formulators, it outperforms the usual sound enhancing cable links that are on the market as we speak. The pro-slapp bong poppy delivers high quality fiber reflective wave files into a crystal quazare engine. This is what seperates the system from other cheap imatations. The disk that comes with the program has a grintle free-bass boom machanism that makes the pathway elrons calapse easily during takes and mixes. It's simply the best machine I,ve ever used.
Well goodluck, and let me know how it went.

WMP, RealOne, & Sound Recorder

I took Web-Mastering class in my School, they taught us how to record music using sound recorder from Windows media player. Now I tried the same thing with Realone player and sound recorder, it doesn't record. Is there a way where I can record music while playing them with realone player?

Re: WMP, RealOne, & Sound Recorder

Use an audio capture program such as <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/">Total Recorder</a>. There are a few similar programs in the recording section of this site, some will save directly to MP3.

kareoke

what cd burning program can i use to copy/back up kareoke cds

Use CloneCD or Disk Juggler

Either program will back up a full CD+G disk.

Your burner must support RAW 96 DAO for it to work.

:)

Re: kareoke

I assume you can use something such as nero and burn your files as DATA.

Help!!!

I have no idea how to get music from the Net onto a CD! Help me! I was up til 2 am trying to figure it out but no luck!

Re: Help!!!

I'll assume you've downloaded some MP3s. You have to have a CD Burner, which is a physical drive very similar to a CDROM. Most new computers have them. OK, then, now you'll need some software to make the CD Burner 'burn' the songs onto a CD-R (recordable CDs you can get almost everywhere). I'm no genius and I use <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Nero_win32/">Nero</a> because it makes the task really easy. It comes with a wizard which will have you burning songs to CD-R in minutes.

Re: Help!!!

Are you trying to get streaming internet audio onto CD? A recorder software will do. By on the fly recording, you can save the recording result to anywhere -- your hard drive or writtable CD. I know such a software Super Mp3 Recorder Pro. It produces CD quality recording and you can even edit your songs.

Hunting is for losers with guns.

Making music and engineering it takes work. If you don't like work,
don't mess with computer music. The easy way out doesn't exist.
However, if you're somebody like Moby, who has power and money, then you could just hire people
to do the work for you. Moby has a team of people to find samples for him because he's too lazy to do it himself.
If you used to be a Moby fan and you think he fell off, now you know part of the reason why.

Well anyways, you should try "Live" by M-Audio/Midiman. It's a live performance multitracker.
It can't do everything, but nothing can. If you are sick of burning audio to hard drive and then CD, then just buy a standalone CD recorder. They sell them as separate units just like CD players. They are expensive, but coming down in price.
It's not a bad idea anyway, since a CD burner won't crash but a computer will.

Have you looked at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Traktor/">Traktor</a>?

how do i record a minidisc to another minidisc?

i have a minidisc player, Sony MZ N505, and a mate who also has one, i want to record some of his minidiscs. How do i do that? What software do i need. DO i record onto PC then onto minidisc?

Re: how do i record a minidisc to another minidisc?

Connect the two minidisc players together and record directly from one to the other. There's no point making the task more complicated by recording to PC then from PC to minidisc.

Re: Recording Analog Music to CD

How do I record from a tape to a hard disc?

Re: Recording Analog Music to CD

First, you need to record your LP's to hard disc; and then you use the burner for burning onto CD. To record, you can go to www.soundrecorder.net for Advanced Sound Recorder.

midi

i want to use a roland vs-1680 to act as slave to my computer cool edit pro 2000 what settings should use for the roland to accept the midi signal please ???

Re: midi

The VS needs to be set to MTC SLAVE. On the VS880, you would go to SYNC/TEMPO and set it to EXT rather than INT. Connect a midi lead from the computer to the VS and press play (with a song loaded) and the play light should flash.

You will need to send out MTC (midi time code) from Cooledit. Whether it does this or not, I don't know. You will also need to set the FPS (frames per second) the same on both machines. My VS defaults to 30fps which is shown in the same menu as EXT/INT. Press play on the MTC master (computer) and the VS's play light should stop flashing and the machine should play.

Impulse tracker graphic problem on laptop

Hi all,

I've got a really strange graphical IT problem and can figure it out by myself, maybe someone can help me.

I want to use IT on my old laptop [Modplug or any other programs are not an option for me].
But when I start IT [no matter if it is in plain MS-Dos or a MS-Dos box] I get scrambled characters in the sample screen [F3] where the "wave" is displayed and in the envelope [F4] screen where the envelope is displayed.
All the text looks fine and the program works fine, with enough memory, but the graphical parts, such as the envelope line are only weird characters.
I already tried the command lines "v1" and "v2", but the problem exists. Also the Impulse tracker starting logo is displayed in weird characters.
I first thought it was a LCD problem but when I attach a normal monitor the problem is also there.

System specs of my Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT:

Intel Pentium II 366mhz
64mb ram
ESS Maestro soundcard
Trident Cyber952 graphic card
Teac CD-rom
6.4HD

Maybe someone can help me out, I would be very happy.

Thanx in advance

Logic Delta R buttom

Hi
Could anyone please help me with this please?
I'm using Logic Delta
And as I went through the manual, there were just so many things that didn't quite go so well with what I saw
First of all, under "setting a Path" section, the manual tells us to go to "Set Audio Record Path" and then click on "set", then we should be able to set the name and the path for our recordings.
But, after I click on "Set Audio Record Path", what I saw was "Maximum Recording time", on which you either select or deselect. And there's a value of minutes next to it that you can input a number,
I clicked on everywhere I could but just found no "SET" to be chosen
I don't understand

Secondly, while the manual tells us to arm the record recorder before an audio file is to be recorded, and that there's a switch marked with an R, but I just couldn't find it.
I enlarged the sequence and still there's only a M button in the track list.

What am I missing?
I really don't understand
It just seems like the manual is playing tricks with me

If anyone know what the problem might be, please give me some advice

Thank you so much

Logic

Hello. What you need to do is click on the "set" button in the same window that lets you
set the maximum record time. If there is no "set" button, then I can only assume that your program copy is damaged or disabled.
After you click "set", you get a dialog window (or "wizard" for Windows dummies") which lets you type in the name and location of a file.
I think the default file type is Sound Designer, but AIFF is the alternative. If you need to convert from Sound Designer format, you can use SonicWORX Artist Basic (freeware), or SoundApp (freeware), or SoundHack (freeware).
Anyways. The "M" on each track stands for "mute". The "R" is probably for record. I'm not sure, because I do all my recording in an external editor. I just use Logic for mixdowns.
One thing: In the mixer window if you click on the ring or double ring you can change from mono to stereo and back.
If you need more RAM, remember to delete any unneeded tracks and mute their channels. This is especially important for the effects channels which are RAM intensive.
Even if you get errors during mixdown rendering, be sure check the results anyway. Often the results sound good anyways. This is the case on my system, which runs entirely on virtual memory, and very little RAM. During rendering, it sounds horrific, but on playback it sounds just fine unless I really stress the system. I get away with it by using freeware "NotVirtual!", an extension. I also use CPU Charger and AV Speedup. These are all free extensions which can help any old Mac PPC struggling to run Logic. Maybe your system doesn't need these. Most iMacs shouldn't need them.
Probably the best enhancement is to add a Quit command to the Finder. You can learn how on ResExcellence.com It's really a RAM saver. The Finder sucks and isn't needed most of the time, so a quit command is totally useful for audio work on a Mac.

If you get errors working with AIFF files, try deleting the resource fork using ResEdit or some freeware tool designed for that such as Quadrivio General Edit or ZapResForks. AIFF's and JPEG's and WAVE's don't need a resource fork. And an AIFF with a resource fork is a deviation from the AIFF specification described by Apple.
If this makes no sense to you, or you don't have this problem don't worry about it.
SoundHack can open corrupted AIFF's and help you save them as standard AIFF's again. As a last resort, you can also set the file type code of a corrupted AIFF to "AudT" and open it with SoundApp ("SCPL"). "AudT" is a raw audio file type, so it's a great way to recover lost AIFF's. I know you didn't ask, but it could come in handy as you're dealing with Logic and your other AIFF/SDII based mac audio programs.

Have fun.

Re: Logic Delta R buttom

Forget the set path. When you hit record on an audio track, it will ask you where you want to put the recorded audio everytime you start a new song. From that point on, all the audio files for 'that song' will be put in the same folder. The good thing about this is that you can create a folder and call it by the name of the new song. All the audio files will then be stored in that folder. Save the song before you start and put it in the same folder. This makes it easy to back up the song as all the information for that song is in that folder.

I don't know what they mean about the R button. Start a new song and save it to a folder (again, create the folder and save the song in that folder, the same one you will use for the song files). Delete everything in the arrange window by clicking on one of the tracks and then hold down the backspace button to delete them all. Double click on a track to create a new track. Hold down the left mouse button on the track you just made and select Audio track 1. Right click on Audio track 1 and name it something (usually by the name of the instrument to be recorded.

Next, go to your Track Mixer. This will have the audio track you just created as well as some returns and a master fader, etc... At the bottom of your Audio track 1, there is a REC button. Before you click this, check that the button to the left of it is set to either mono or stereo (it's up to you although most instruments are obviously monophonic other than the obvious stereo synth/sampler), Above the fader is a selectable input and output. Depending on your Audio card (set up in the Hardware and Drivers menu. You MUST set this up first to get the right ins and outs), you will be able to select where the audio to be recorded is coming from and and where it goes out so you can hear it. Select the correct input to be recorded from. Hit the REC button and you should be asked where you want to store the audio. Select the folder we created earlier and your off... :))

Could Anyone tell me which is the best free software to intorduce me to music mixing? I am looking for a software that will enable me to trim songs, blend songs and sounds, and mix songs seamlessly? Thanks for the help.

Re: mixing

That's not what mixing is, in the music world, but Samplitude is a nice multi track mixer.
You might want a "DJ" tool.

Just take a look in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/RE-MIXING_DJ/">remixing section</a> of this site. There are a few freeware programs available that will help you get started. If you're after something with a load of features, you're likely to have to pay for it. Traktor is probably the best but it comes at a price.
