Piano "cross-hairs" program???? HELP!!!

I'm trying to find this music software that I saw at a museum exhibit a few years ago. It basically has a grid of piano keys. You mouse controls where the vertical line (notes) crosses with the horizontal lines (chords). When I saw it, it was running on an OLD Mac, if that helps anybody. If anyone has any idea as to the name of the program I'm talking about, please let me know. It was really cool, and I'd like to find it again.

What was I using?

I was on-line looking for a program to convert wave files to midi's. (I have written a few and I have been selling them locally.)

I have found a few, but none I'm too happy with.

The a program that would take a midi file and translate it to sheet music. It had a lot of options, and I was very pleased with it. Since it was one the computer, and I was useing it I didn't worry too much, and went to bed. I tend to give up at 3:00 a.m. (I am convenced there is only one 7:00-11:00, and it isn't a.m.)

I got up at a reasonable time, and the program has disappeared. HELP!!!

Re: What was I using?

QUOTE "The a program that would take a midi file and translate it to sheet music"

Midi files to sheet music isn't hard. Wave to a midi file is a completely different matter. Wave files are audio information and a midi file is essentially Word Processor style information of note information, when a note occurs, how hard etc etc etc..

A midi file IS the note information and can be represented by musical score easily. Wave files don't have any information on musical score whatsoever. It is audible music and that's that.

please help !!!!!!!!!

if anyone knows how to burn streaming audio to cdr please let me know..........

Re: please help !!!!!!!!!

You'd have to capture (record) the streaming audio before you think about burning it.

There is a software product named "Total Recorder" that can be used with common products such as Realaudio. The software essentially diverts the "sound" from the soundcard to an output that you specify.

sound wave cancelling

I am looking for software(prefer freeware)that can analyze the sound from a microphone and produce a sound wave that cancels the original wave thereby creating silence.Take a look at www.nct-active.com for noise buster extreme for a better idea of what I mean. Thanks

Just invert the audio and add it with cool edit or basicly any software.

or are you going for noise cancelation software? if you are then it only really works with head phones, and the micropone very close to the ears.

I'm on the same boat here, why is it not that simple ?

any ideas of where to look for such a piece of sofware ?

any input is appreciated.

Best regards

Fernando.

.....

By rights, all you want to do it turn the signal out of phase with itself. This will mean that when the signal is pushing, the alternative signal that is 180 degrees out of phase with the first will be pulling.

Re: .....

I was looking for noise cancellation like they use to block sound on airplanes.I guess realtime software to do this may not exist. Thanks for your feedback.I wanted to use this to quiet intermittent noise in my home by monitoring the sounds with a PC and having it produce reverse phase.Maybe too tall an order. Thanks again

Re: .....

Okay Jim,

Because the original noise source is different than where the reverse phase is being played from, and the listener is at an indeterminate place in the room, revering the phase to cancel noise in the room will not work.

To make silence you either have to reverse the sound source to make it quiet, or reverse the sound just before it enters the ears. just somewhere in the room will not work weather you do it in software of hardware.

Hope that makes sense

Re: .....

OK I knew that do you know of a program that can monitor the signal and produce a wave that will cancel the original wave.I have searched but am unable to find such a thing. Thanks

Re: .....

I think you will find that most DAW sequencers and some editing programs will allow you to reverse the phase. What program you use depends on what computer platform you use. I use a Mac and use Peak and Logic Audio. I rarely, if ever phase reverse anything other than during a multi mic'ing situation and then I will us the phase switch on a desk

Re: .....

So I might do better using an electronic circuit than software?

Re: .....

I'm a little confused as to what you are trying to do and why.

Creating a contrary wave to cancel the original has to be a reverse of the original wave for it to effectively cancel. Why would you want to do this out of interest?

If you had two mic's in a room and reversed the phase of one of them, it would not create silence. Why? because the two sound sources are actually different. It could sound very strange depending on the mic placement. Recording a wave from one mic, copying the wave and then playing it back at exactly the same time as the original, but out of phase should give you what you want. If you were to send one of the waves to a phase reverse circuit on a mixing desk and then route it back to the computer, it would likely not cancel properly as the delay in the travelling distance for the round trip through the desk would create a shift in the wave's respective timing and probably cause a phasing effect.

If you phase reversed with a wave editor and got it right, you would end up with silence (well...)

Whoopey.. !

analogue recording programs

i have tried to find a program that is easy to use and stores the songs in a wave format that can be read by other programs, they all seem to be different is it not possible to have a din standered or would that be against what they say is healthy compatition in the market place. still thats another subject.i am useing N Track at the moment and it keeps losing the songs i record and that makes me very angry, plus the so called wave format can not be read by any other program.
so i hope someone can come up with a good alternative for me, thanks in anticipation
yours Mel.

Re: analogue recording programs

Wave and Aif. The most popular uncompressed audio standards should be easily read by any popular audio application.

If you have problems with this, you are either using the wrong applications or the wrong computer..

This Site Tells It All

Go to http://www.hiphopgame.com/index2.php3?page=neptunes it is an interview with The Neptunes. They beak down what software as well as what hardware they use.

Re: what software does neptunes use

pliz find out!!

Re: what software does neptunes use

They are using pro tools, as well as using the Trioton Keyboard Series

Re: what software does neptunes use

: i wanna know this for future refrence ;)

Re: what software does neptunes use

They use Pro Tools as Audio Editing Software but the beats are programmed on an old Korg Workstation and an ASR-10 (so they say at least).

Macintorch - are u out there?

I've been doing a lot of work on the discussion forums

dance station

hi, i brought a dance station
http://www.dancestation.com/
ages ago and it was brilliant to use as trigger for samples (recorded wav files) when i was mixing. i recently brought the new usb version of the keyboard (mk-225c) and it does not work correctly with the software, has anyone got got any ideas on how to fix it, of better still anyone got any info on other software. i want to use the keyboard to simply trigger sampled sounds while mixing, any help would be great.

Converting casette tapes and LP's to CD's

I have a number of tapes and LP's and it would be more managable if I could record them on CD's. As it is not we do not use the Tape player or the LP phonograph. Any help would be appreciated. I have a CD burner.

Thanks

Keith Clarke

Re: Converting casette tapes and LP's to CD's

i would record my cassttes and LPs first as Wav files.. using any wave editor with real time recording capabilities ( soundforge, wavelab).. second, use a mastering tool ( steinberg clean etc ) to get rid of the noise and hiss and all that crap. and finally burn the mastered version on CDs using any of the CD burners .. ( NERO burning ROM)
:) pretty simple eh :)

Increasing Amplication of CD after burning from LP

Am enthusiastically interested in burning some of my LP's to CD's. Am using Roxio CD Creator 5, Windows XP, and followed your instructions to change my sound recorder on my Dell Dimension 8200 to 44,100Hz, 16 bit Stereo. I get great results w/CD to CD and also good results LP to CD. However, after burning my LP's, I have noticed that I must turn up the volume when playing them back on my CD player. I am using an RCA Mini Stereo Amplifier which has Output Power of 1.8 Watts Per Channel. I have tried altering the Input level on Sound Stream to no avail. Am wondering if I need a higher capacity Amplifier. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Herb
