Re: which is the best sound card?

: hi!
: which is the best sound card for multitrack AUDIO recording (sonar xl) on win 98 and at an afordable price?
: your help will be appreciated.

Your question is a little difficult to answer because
"affordable price" means different things to different
people.

You also didn't say how many tracks you would like to
record simultaneously - sound cards range from 1 input
to 16 inputs for line level, mics, phantom power etc.

Have you looked at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/rd/MS_creative_but1_click/rd.pl/?http://www.americas.creative.com/promo/entertowin/audigy2pex/welcome.asp?campid=20046">Sound Blaster Audigy2</a> you could win it for free.

Give us a little more info on what sort of recording
you want to do, and what kinds of instruments you'll
be recording, and there are plenty of us around here
who can help you out.

Jason.

Re: which is the best sound card?

Please inform me the price and technical information about the 4 and 8 inputs for microphone.I am interested in multitrack recording in home purpose with computer.
Thanking you in anticipation

Casio WK-1630 won't play in MIDI

My Casio WK 1630 won't play my computer's music when
I turn off the "local" control on the keyboard...but
at the same time it can input - my computer is
recording the notation as I play on the keyboard. I
looked online for a driver that might be needed to do
playback, but it doesn't look like one exists.

Re: SonicStage

If you are using WindowsXP then the problem is most
likely caused by Sonic Stage not being completely
compatible with XP - there are known issues with this
program on XP, see:
<a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q321882">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q321882</a>

You could try running it on Win 98 but that may not be
practicle for you.

Have you tried finding help on the Sony Support site at
<a href="http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/">http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/</a>?

Thanks in anticipation to all muso's around the world!

Re: Convert midi to wave or mp3

I need some information to make a c, c++ program, running under DOS, to convert midi files to wave.
Someone can help me ???

Thanks in advance.

Re: Convert midi to wave or mp3

There's <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Midi2Wav_Recorder/">MIDI2WAV</a> which you'd have to register to get the best out of. Other than that, I'd use an audio capture program like like Total Recorder. You'll find it and many similar programs <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_RECORDING/">here</a>

Korg X3 .sng files to computer

I write songs using the sequencer on my Korg X3 Music Workstation. I need to find a cheap or inexpensive way to transfer my songs (.sng files) to the computer so I can listen to and send my music to other people. Some kind of media like MP3, .wav, .mod or something like that? Is there a program available that can do this? I know I can go to a studio and record my songs onto a CD, but that would be quite costly. Thanx. Steve H. stvhilb@aol.com

Re: Korg X3 .sng files to computer

hi steve, this is in reply to your quiry regarding transferring korg x3 sng files to your computer. Korg x3 has its converter from sng file to smf and save it on a floppy disc. Insert the diskette to the computer and load it.

The simplist solution is not to try to transfer your
.sng files to your computer, but to record the songs
as .wav files on your computer.

Simply plug a cable from the audio out of your X3 to
the Line In on your sound card. Hit play on the X3 and
record on your audio editor (I recommed <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit</a>).

Cool Edit can also convert your songs to .mp3 files.

There are heaps more <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_EDITORS/">Audio Editing</a> programs and <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&words=mp3+encoding">MP3 Encoding</a> Programs to look at on this site.

Re: Korg X3 .sng files to computer

Hi, I have a similar question, but a different problem: I have *.sng files in my computer (backup) and wish to transfer from computer to X3 via MIDI cable. I can't use the floppy disk because it's out of order. Did you discover any way to make this data transfer?

Muscal notation rendering software

As a manager for a youth orchestra I am reseaching
for technology which can visually highlight notes on
a staff while an instrument plays through a
challenging passage. This can either be a turn-key
package or combination of software utilities that
allow for the display of which musical notes are
being played along with the audio example. This is
envisioned as a training aid for musicians working on
unfamiliar music for the first time. I am open to
leads and suggestions that can help me put together
such a training aid that can be saved as as file and
shared.

karaoke sound

When we sing karaoke, we can choose either with vocal or just music background. Now I have both vocal.wav and the music background.wav. Which software can combine these two wav files into one sound file, but must be identified by Premiere6.5.

I have tried to use Cake Walk to put one of them on the left track and the other one on the right track but when I play the disc back in karaoke player, I cannot choose. Can you advise how to make it ?

Thanks,

Jimmy

Apology To Jason Horton

I just wanted to let you know that i have reconsidered the nature of my use of computer bulletin boards. I do not wish to encourage trouble to breed. I believe in the proliferation of music and other forms of creative data, but not in the abuse of a decent site becoming a vehicle for political crossfires.

Nevertheless, I wanted to truly leave a concluding note for anybody who has been noticing my interactions here. In short, my experiments and predictions have proved successful.

On a lighter note, I suggest the book "Godel, Escher, Bach" for any other musicians with a keen interest in information theory.
