Hello,

There's lack of good affordable MIDI keyboard on makret so I

Collaborators Wanted For Fun Music Making

I'm looking for other people who also make electronic music just for fun,
who would like to collaborate via the internet. I'm thinking we could upload
half-finished pieces and see what the other person can turn them into. I'm
thinking maybe plain MIDI files of basic arrangements, and then the other
person doing whatever they want with it, with all kinds of cool sounds.

I'm into instrumental melodic electronic music. Stuff with good tunes but
also good sounds and beats. Recently I've got into the idea breaking the
music-making process down into stages, by first using just basic General
MIDI sounds to create the tunes, and then later going back and totally
reconstructing them with really cool sounds and seeing what I can make them
into. That's not the only approach I have to music-making, but it's one. It
would be interesting to see what other people could do with my tunes, and
vice-versa.

If you're interested, you can e-mail me at eddykins2003@yahoo.co.uk or
alternatively, you can visit my online music club at

Cheers!

Looking for a simple stereo mixer.

Hello and sorry for cross-posting!

I am putting up a stereo rack system. I need to mix CD player and stereo mic
and/or synth, which are then recorded to minidisk. The system is going to be
used in brass instrument teaching and I would like to keep it simple: EQ,
pan etc. are not desirable and the channel level controls should be stereo.

So far I have found this (Rolls MX56s), but it has got only one mic in:
http://www.rolls.com/new/mx56.html

Any other suggestions?

I wanted to say: Left and right levels of a given stereo channel should be
linked to one knob.

Re: Looking for a simple stereo mixer.

Go to a music shop{instruments} and have a look at some mini mixers used by
bands. 6 inputs 2 outputs with pots uses 9v battery or transformer.

near-fields...yes I know it's been asked before

Hello,

I'm setting up my home/project studio and have come to the poing of
purchasing near-field monitors. There seem to be quite a few options out
there in the sub-$1000 (Cdn) price range. I know that monitors are
subjective, however, my location prevents me from trying a bunch to see what
I want. I pretty much have to make a decision and buy them, unless I'm
willing to make this a very long endevour.

Does anyone know of a website with REAL reviews of monitors? Is there a
chart out there comparing the budget monitors? Almost every magazine review
is positive, no matter which monitor they're reviewing, so that's not really
helpful.

I'm mostly recording acoustic/folk type music with my acoustic guitar so I
don't need booming bass, clarity is more important.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Andrew

Re: near-fields...yes I know it's been asked before

The Tannoy Reveals (Active) have gotten fairly good reviews in all the
reviews I've seen both in magazines and here on this NG and on the
rec.audio.pro NG. I heard them myself and thought that they sounded fairly
decent. Although my favorites were the Alesis M1 Actives and also a similar
model that Yamaha makes, but I can't remember the model# at the moment.
But the Tannoy Reveals in my opinion would be a fairly safe bet.

Korgs EMX-1 or ESX-1?

Which is better for making music?

Re: Korgs EMX-1 or ESX-1?

: Which is better for making music?

one's a sampler and one's a synth. They are both production stations in their own rights, but i'd go with the EMX-1. If possible, get both. A nod towards the EMX-1 ensures powerful groundbreaking music production without sampling.

Goldwave

I have hours of bedroom tapes I would like to restore, edit and digitize. How does Goldwave work for that? Would you recommend something easier or more effective? Thanks.

Avid vs premiere

help me. i am at a cross road, wondering which software to buy, either avid video editing or Adobe Premiere software. i am told that if i choose Premiere then i may have to buy Rx100 matrox card which is pretty expensive, however if i go for avid brand, i don't know what video card i need to run it.At present i have Gforce4 460 DDR 64MB graphic card. Will this card support the avid if i buy it? or i have to change it. can i use the same graphic card or some other card with premiere. please help me.

Re: Avid vs premiere

better used premiere..., you can use firewire (without capture card), i've used premiere almost 10 years and it's fine...very simple, best output..! i've produced 8 TV program with premiere.

OMG this really works

Does anyone out there still have a fostex DMT-8vl?

Recently purchased at yard sale. Need to know how to record tracks without spilling over onto other tracks. A users manual would be nice too!

Re: Does anyone out there still have a fostex DMT-8vl?

john,

the 8vl can be quite complicated but once you get used to it, its a great tool. to ensure that the recording dont overbleed, be sure to select only the track you wish to record onto by pressing the button of desired destination track. this button can be found directly bellow the display screen. for even better sound quality, turn the pan knob of the input you are using to the extreme right of extreme left depending on the track that was selected. for example, if you wish to record onto track 1, press the 1/L button underneath the display screen. then turn the pan knob the the extreme "left" because track one records onto the the left sterio channel (as indicated by the "1/L" on the button. the selected track should now be blinking on the display screen. press the record button. both the record light and track 1 lights should be blinking now but you are not yet recording. just hold the play button down and press record again simultaniously and your take will begin. (if you are recording on 2/R or another right track 2,4,6,8, you will need to pan right. good luck,
johnny

Re: Does anyone out there still have a fostex DMT-8vl?

i have a dmt-8vl and my manual was stolen. i remember something about turning the l/r knob to extreme opposite directions of one another when recording tracks to keep them from bleeding, but that's all i can recollect (and when i record "playing by ear" they bleed like crazy and ruin everything). fostex's site does not have a lead to a printable manua, and i'd love to find one/ pay someone for a copy, done on a copier would be more than adequate. please email me with any leads...ONicholas8@aol.com. thanks. -nick

Re: Does anyone out there still have a fostex DMT-8vl?

I've got one with an Owner's manual. Frankly, your not gonna figure it out without the manual, and the manual almost assumes you know how to work it anyway. It's 150 pages and complicated

Re: Does anyone out there still have a fostex DMT-8vl?

Can you post it or serve it on a web page somewhere? If you send it to me at michaelm@inwcomputing.com I will post it on my web server for you :-)

THIS IS THE PLACE FOR THE FREE MANUAL!!!

Re: Does anyone out there still have a fostex DMT-8vl?

Their idea of 4 tracks consists of 2 audio tracks in and two midi tracks in, you cannot record 4 audio tracks at once and then be able to mix them separately. This was a real letdown to me too. Does anyone have the manual posted on the net yet? Mine got "borrowed" and for the life of me I cannot remember how to erase just one reel at a time.

: I have an owners manual and I still can't work out how to record more than two tracks simultaneously. Whatever I try and do with the balance pots, I still get leakage onto other tracks. Does anyone know a way of avoiding this? They made the machine with 8 jack inputs - why??!!

Re: Does anyone out there still have a fostex DMT-8vl?

It can be done. The spec of the desk says it should be able to record at least 4 simultaneously, but I've yet to do it. You can definately build up multiple tracks by starting with a stereo track (two channels), and feeding these channels out via the Monitor output. Treat the L/R control as a final mix control. So by building up the tracks you'll get 6 separate tracks which can be mixed down into the final two tracks for a stereo mix, or build up the whole 8 tracks and record the mix onto something else. There are 8 recorder out line sockets on the top left of the mixer. I think these can be used to output a "live" type performance with 8 individual instruments to their own separate amplifiers. One intermittant problem I have with mine is intermittant breakthrough on individual tracks where the previous track isn't erased. But I am now formatting the drive to see if I can reduce the problem at least.

More effects for bass guitar

You now how hard it is to save up money for effects and all that.I am 13 so you know I cant just go out there and buy stuff. I got to have money.I just so happen to play bass guitar. You know there is bass players out there to.Not just guitar players.Do us a favor and put us some effects on there for us.I know you got the bass tabs but we want effects. You may have bass chorus but that doesnt work.I dont feel like saving a couple hundred of bucks up for ground control when i can hook my bass right up to the computer. This is a sweet download site. Keep it up but do me a favor and put bass effects on there. Thanks

MIDI and System mixer

Hi!

I'm looking for software which allows to control system mixer with midi CC or NRPN commands. I suppose it is very easy to write software like that, but unfortunately I have no clue about programming.
