The card is from Media/Sound forte (www.mediaforte.com.sg) and there is little to no info at all about this card,
So.....

TIA,

MP3-Diamond-Rio Player?

Anyone know anything about the Rio MP3 solid state player?
I am looking for a small portable walkman-type machine
and am wondering if the Rio is worth the money or if
there are any other portable solid state players around.

Re: MP3-Diamond-Rio Player?

A friend of mine has the Rio. The only complaint he has about it, is the amount of memeory. He has bought additional memeory, so it's not as bad as what comes with it. Other than that, he simply LOVES it.

Cassette Tape to MP3 file

What software would I use to convert a cassette tape to *.wav format? I think I can use audiocatalyst to convert the wav file to mp3. The problem I'm having is the windows recorder only records in 1 minute segments. I have a 60 minute cassette.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I suggest using CoolEdit. I plug the output of an FM radio into the audio input of a stereo VCR. then I put in an 8-hour VHS tape on the slowest speed and record a whole day's worth of a favorite radio station. When reviewing the tape, when I find a song that I want to keep, I plug the stereo audio output of the VCR into the LINE IN of PC. Then I use Cool Edit to record the song and edit the DJ chatter from the beginning and end. Be sure to use 44KHz sample 16 bit and stereo and save the whole result to a WAV file. Then I take the WAV file and run it through AudioCatalyst at normal or low-normal variable bit rate to make an MP3 file. I delete the big WAV file afterwards. I've collected (or 'mined') hundreds of songs like this. After I get 100 to 130 songs, I put them on a recordable CD in MP3 form.

Re: Cassette Tape to MP3 file

You can try the singulator program which is sharewear. I've used it and it does a good job.

wavemaker prg files and wave files

Wavemaker is able to render midi files and convert
it into wav files.
The share has only few sounds.
Has anybody created prg files and belonging wav files
for common wavetable sounds.
Or does anybody know an internet address, where to
get it.

Specialist for MIDI programming VB searched

I´´m lookin gfor someone who is familiar with Visual Basic and midi programming
I´ve searched a long time now for a software that meets my requests but couldn´t fin one. So I´ve desided to write one my own.
Features needed: Open midi file read Lyrics an chord information show these on screen (as a Karaoke player) and handle more than 2 midi output ports.
(Even the best players I found couldn´t handle only one midi port.)
At the moment I work with Cakewalk Professional but its chord display function is not usable on stage.

Is the new maxi isis soundcard any good?

i'm buying a new soundcard and found this (apparent) beauty at guillemot's site, it is going to be released mid january. i just wondered if anyone can direct me to some reviews or has had any experience of this soundcard. from the spec it looks absolutely top-notch. I was going to buy a gina but found this card, check it out at the link if you're thinking of getting a new soundcard.

Hi,

I Bought the ISIS. It works great! BUT: when tried to upgrade the memory to 32 MB the problems starting to occure.
There is only 8MB seen by the card and it crashes my Windows 98 all the time.
The replacement-card sent to me by Guillemot has the same problem.

I'm going to have a talk with guillemot today.

The card is great, the memomry management sucks. This is only for the MIDI-part.

transcription software

Hello Everyone,
I need to find a flexible transcription program for a
study I'm doing on rhythmic subtleties in Japanese
koto music. I've only begun investigating my options and
I would welcome any advice and/or suggestions you might
have. Here's what I need:

1. a program that can transcribe from an audio (mini disc)
input rather than a midi input.

2. a program with flexible parameters so I can focus on
note attacks with dynamics and perhaps deemphasize pitch.

3. options for Western and different graphic notations.

4. a program that allows me to demark a rhythmic timeline and
display the performance along side it.

Many thanks for your help!

Or is there another soft that can do this? and provide good editting features, too?

cubase or cakewalk

If the price doesn't really matter, what would you recommend?

I'd like to record audio(vocals, guitar, bass and drum; and midi (drummachine, with some other instruments)
I want to record each on a different track and add some effects.
Wich one is the best for editting? Do I need some extra software for editting, ...?

Thanks for your advice!!!!

I had this choice with the same needs as you have and ended up using Logic Audio system over Cubase - it is certainly worth having a look at, although it is a little more difficult to learn.

i have always used cakewalk and found it quite good and reasonably easy to use once you get to grips with it. the audio editor within it will be ok if your using the program as an eight (or hoxever many) track to add effects but you'll probably want to get something with more features like soundforge, after a while. i recently changed to cubase vst mainly to be in compliance with friends so we can transfer songs between our computers to work on them. the majority of computer producers use cubase so its easier to get plug-ins and advice for it. if you've got a reasonably fast processor (over 200mhz) or dsp (digital sound processor on you soundcard) the realtime monitoring, effects and mastering are better and more accessible in cubase vst and the graphics are good and look nicer than cakewalk, having a rack mount appearance. between the two i reckon cubase to be more user freindly in design and reasonable for adding effects, although cakewalk is a strong competitor. if it was between the two i would reccomend cubase vst.
hope this helps

Compressor advice needed

I'm a newbee to midi and an old fart to boot, but I just
got SBLive and want to multi track hard disc record.
I am told that software is available to moderate the
volume of voice tracks to avoid spikes. By this I mean a
dedicated S/ware rather than using the mixers in say
cake Express that came with the card. I understand that
what I need is a compressor. Can anyone offer advise please
would greatly appreciate it.

Compressor advice needed

I got around this by simply recording at a lower
volume, then "normalizing" the track later. To
me, this is a better solution for preserving
the dynamic range of the original cut. You could
always apply compression via your software after
you record; try different algorithms, etc., and
always be able to undo it. Also, unless you have
pretty good hardware, you're better off using a
good quality, external compressor. I noticed that
the Alesis "Nanocompressor" is only about $100.
