Re: SPC Format

: : Does anybody here know how to convert from SPC to MP3? Or any other format for that matter...

: What software makes SPC files?

A program called ZSNES makes SPC files. What they are is video game music captured to a file. They're higher quality than MOD, and only about twice the size of MID, so they're okay. I would like to find how to make them into MP3s however.

Why don't you do it the old fashioned way and record the wav data as the SPC is playing and then encode it to MP3?

Since SPCs don't have any time meter, the only way to convert one to other formats would be to use W3Z's method and do it manually.

there is a better way to convert spcs. u can turn them into wavs using a program called spctool which u can download from http://members.aol.com/antires/index2.html
it's bit of a complicated and unstable program tho. use alt-f3

Real time audio to MIDI conversion

Is there any software/hardware that will allow me to take the line output from my mixer, and convert to MIDI as I play? I am a musician/entertainer and use mulitple keyboards, real-time arrangers, synthesizers, sound modules, etc. I play them at the same time and would like to record these in MIDI form, just as if it were a live performance. I would then edit the resulting MIDI files with Cakewalk and get the files ready to burn my own CDs.

Thanks.

Sorry, but the answer is NO.
The MIDI format differs substantially from wave audio and cannot be converted to wave audio.
The best thing for you would be to buy a MIDI card with multiple ins and outs and hook up all your gear so you can record and play from your sequencer....

Re: Real time audio to MIDI conversion

Mr(s)Midified of course means that wave-files cannot be turned into midi, just to get it straight.Though,I´ve heard about "Mellosoftron" which should be able in some way to trigger wave-files in a sampler-like way together with midi---Check it out!

Oops! (I stand corrected)

Sorry, had my words mixed up by accident.

Places to purchase?

I thought I would go against the norm in this forum and ask where you guys buy your software. I was looking at getting Sound Forge XP and ACID Music, and maybe a sample CD or 2. I wondered if anyone sold a small package deal that might include these. Also, does anyone use a CD recordable software comparable to Sonic Foundry's CD Architect?Redman

The best two place to go would be Sonic Foundry's site at <a href="http://www.sonicfoundry.com">www.sonicfoundry.com</a> and <a href="http://www.musicianstore.com">www.musicianstore.com</a>

How can I avoid "hanging notes" when recording a midi pattern.

Hi
I have downloaded a demo version of cubase Score VST.
It seems to be working apart from when I play back my recorded midi patterns. Some notes, especially when I am recording cord progressions, are hanging longer than I recorded them. I am using an OPL3-SA internal sound bank and sound card. I would be grateful if someone could help me with this problem.

Korg M1 Mac librarian

Just wondering if anyone knows of a shareware editor/librarian for the Korg M1 for Mac? If so, where can I get it?
Thanks

CW.

Korg M1 Mac USB librarian

I tried the M1 librarian that you all suggested - but it doesn't have USB support. Does anyone know of an M1 librarian for the Mac (G4) WITH
USB support.
Cheers, Tim

You can check out http://members.aol.com/spaztech/SpazM1.html which is inexpensive
though I can't much about this software. There
is only a MIDI disabled demo available for download.

Am also desperatley looking for the same.

Cubase full of bugs?!

I've tried three different versions of Cubase, and I've changed computer but the following bugs just won't go away! Can anybody help me with any of them?

1. Sometimes (quite often) when I try to record audio the synchronization won't work The audio jumps about a 1/16 to the left, ruining the whole recording! This is EXTREMELY annoying, and if anybody can help me with this, I would be very grateful!
2. When I make long audiorecordigs (3-4 min +) in 44 khz the recording loose synch more and more during the playback.
3. My system hangs if I open the fxwindow for a single channel before opening the main mixer.
4. If i use the Reset Devices command, audiorecordings I make after that won't work. I get an error message saying "Your last recording was to short to use".
5. With my new sblive I can't choose different drumsets. Nothing happens when i change them in the GM/GS/XG mixer!
6.Sometimes when I try to change instrument in the GM/GS/XG mixer there's no effect.

Re: Cubase full of bugs?!

Cubase does have a few bugs. Problem is it is hard to pinpoint them. As for the soundblaster live, there is nothing wrong with it at all!!! Especially if you use the APS live drivers! 7ms latency with real ASIO drivers in Cubase! I have a p3 600 256mb ram and an Ultrawide scsi Hard drive. Before i used the standard drivers from Creative, Which i might add, are reasonable, my system ran fine! But now, using the APS live Drivers, it is flawless!!!!! I can run everything and only get a fraction of the cpu meter moving!
But things aren't all squeaky clean! I have a problem at the moment, where i launch key editor and the whole machine freezes up! Nightmare! But this never happened before, so it is obviously something i've done recently! Which is install a shit load of new vst instruments and effects. So i shall try removing all of them and perhaps Cubase and go for a clean install. Then i can add one at a time until i find which one causes the problem! (Hopefully he says!)
As for the other problems, most are common. But you should goto the audio system and make sure that you are using the direct x full duplex driver. Of course you could also try out the APS Drivers, which i might add are excellent! Then once you have selected this driver, goto advanced and set the sync to output when listening and input when recording. Though i have to say that i never got any trouble with syn when recording by just leaving it on output! Also in the audio system, check the box that says enable plugin delay compensation( or similar, sorry i'm at work and haven't got the screen in front of me!!!! ). This i found can really help sync if you are using plugins. If anyone wants to email me, please do so. I have been using Cubase now for 9 years and although it has changed somewhat over the years, i have quite a few nice tips i have picked up! And i am also looking to learn anything you may have to offer that i don't know about. A problem shared is a problem halved as they say!!!!! Regards, Killer!

Re: Cubase full of bugs?!

: I've tried three different versions of Cubase, and I've changed computer but the following bugs just won't go away! Can anybody help me with any of them?

I am running Cubase VST with Turtle Beach Pinnacle
sound card, 64MB RAM, 17GB HD on Win95.
I am very impressed with the features of Cubase,
which I just bought a few days ago, but I have also
experienced numerous bugs:
1. Sometimes, "record" stops working. Sometimes
restarting Cubase clears it; sometimes I need
to reboot the computer.
2. Sometimes the metronome goes out of sync with
the digital audio. Restarting cubase clears the
problem.
3. Sometimes Cubase appears to be recording, but
when I stop, it says "Your last recording was too
short to use", and I find that it recorded nothing.
4. Sometimes Cubase gets confused about whether
a track is muted: The track shows as un-muted,
but turns out to be muted.

At this point, I don't know if the problem is
with Cubase or my sound card, or perhaps my
setup, altough I have spent many hours re-checking
my setup, and my computer seems to be working
fine with other applications.

What sound card are you using with Cubase?

David

Re: Cubase full of bugs?!

I have a Sounblaster Live, (which have LOTS of cool and useful features for the homemusician btw)a P2 350 + 96mb ram, and I run win95.

Your problems are probably related to your Soundcard. I bought a SBLive card recently and had the same problems as you (especially timing).

When I queried (over many days) with Creative Labs, they admitted that their drivers were at fault and I got my money back.

Re: Cubase full of bugs?!

your problems are NOT just related to your setup; i am also getting the message 'your last recording was too short to use' with VST 3.7, a P3-450, 128mb ram, Frontier Design's Dakota 16-ch dual lightpipe soundcard.

can anyone help?
