with a good soundcard.
you can play your midifile and record it as wav
in a waveditor(cooledit ect.)

Re: midi to wav. ...

You have to have an analog output from your midi device and then route it through a mixer or directly into the soundcard and whoops! the midi signal becomes an audio signal!

Problem with mixing audio & midi with cubase score vst

AWE 64 for programming DX7?

Can anyone tell me if my SB AWE 64 will work for transferring patches back and forth from my Yamaha DX-7 (havent got the synth yet). I know the card only emulates the MPU401 midi interface that the synth requires. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

>>>You sure can! Use the sysex menu in Cakewalk or Midi Orchestrator Plus, simply load a patch bank, then send to your DX7...btw, make sure keyboard's memory protect is turned off and set sys info available (function/8 for midi) Have fun!

Notation Software for 486 Disc Drive Only

God I'm desperate. Is there any software that does full orchestral notation, part extraction etc that I can run on my 486 running Win 3.11 with disk drive only? God bless you if you can help.
Shaun.

Shaun,

as Win 3.11 usually uses some swap memory of
your disk, I would urgently recommend to install
a hard drive. Notation software for a 486 under
Win 3.11 might be: Finale ('til version 97),
Encore or Capella (www.whc.de). All of them
work under Win 3.11, but I asure you - they all
work better with a hard drive.

I'm new at this.......

I'm new at the whole mp3 thing. When i click on someone's link to one(mp3) all i get is a bunch of computer code and stuff. What does this mean???

Re: I'm new at this.......

What you should do is hit SHIFT and left click on your mouse simultaneously to download the file. If the server hosting the MP3 file has their server set a certain way you get the 'garbage' on the screen. Try a reputed site like www.mp3.com/ and you'll find files download without having to click on your mouse and press shift.

Cheers
Geoff

You'll find a couple of programs that may suit your needs in our <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/categories/Popular_Formats/MPEG/software.shtml">MPEG</a> section.

Need ReBirth help please!

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

When I'm in ReBirth listening to a pattern it sounds fine no skips or anything. As soon as I move my mouse it skips like crazy! How can i fix this? any feedback would be appreciated thanks.

Re: Need ReBirth help please!

It could be as simple as not having enough RAM in your system. You'd want at least 32 MB of RAM, but 64 would be a dream.

Please please please help.

TRY CAKEWALK absolute the best there is !!!!!

Good luck

Re: Studio Mixing programs

The other main program in use in Logic Audio produced by emagic(www2.emagic.de/) and distributed by Sound Technology plc(www.soundtech.co.uk/) in the uk. It is pretty much like Cubasis, and in my opinion is better than Cubasis.

Logic is your best bet for remixing tracks, but
using another program to get the smaples of CD
is easiest. I use the mixer bundled with my soundcard......which works fine. I am using 98
and all works fine.

The other option is to get cubasis working on 98.
I know that were some problems with Logic and 98
when 98 first came out...but they are solved now
Try contacting Millenium Music Software at
www.millennium-music.co.uk/
They sorted me out when I had problems.
They are also very good at advice.

Hope that helps...If u email me i`ll try to
answer any other questions.

:I have tried everything that's been suggested.Ripper, real audio plus-full version, etc. the method I opted for was to purchase an audio cable.
:attach it to your sound card and to a tape deck. record from your computer. This method allows you to record ram, ra au or whatever.New or old. Then you remove the audio cable from the puters output and reinsert into input.
:here is where you need a program.Don't use windows sound recorder. dump it, delete it, get rid of the damn thing. get a good one. I use cool edit pro but there are others.
:now you transfer tape to computer in wav format. fini

Converting 8 bit .wav`s to 16 bit .wav`s..How?

I am using logic audio and I have some 8 bit sound files
that I want to use in compositions. Logic will not
allow me to load them and I cannot get any of my other
audio programs to convert them into 16 bit...
I am assuming that there is a piece of software
somewhere that can do this...but I cannont find it.
Or is re-recording them through my soundcard the
only way?

Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Re: Converting 8 bit .wav`s to 16 bit .wav`s..How?

: I had the same problem. I was trying to record 8 bit wave files to cd audio forrmat and it wouldn't let me! The problem isn't that it's 8 bit but cd audio won't support the 8 kHz format. If you are running Windows go to the sound recorder under programs/accessories/multimedia. Open the wave file you want to convert and under FILE select save as. At the bottom of the dialog box you will see a key for CHANGE. Select this and you can change the format to 44.100 kHz 16 bit stereo or mono. CD audio will only recognize the 44.100 kHz format. This should work. Good luck!

Voyetra has cheap prgm that took the midi from a Roland KB into a Reveal soundcard and the played notes were shown scored on the screen. I am a newbie at this so the answer may seem simple. This stuff ran on 3.11 with a 486/50

Re: Need sophistocated MUSIC NOTATION SOFTWARE?

Look out for

Finale www.codamusic.com
Capella www.whc.de
Encore www.gvox.com (available, but not developed further)
Graphire Music Press www.graphire.com
Igor www.igortech.pi.se/igor
Cubase Score www.steinberg.com

...and have fun!
