duh! arranging

can anyone suggest sites where a basic arranging course is available. I can read music and need to find a way to set pop standards for a lyric baritone and contralto to sing. No major voicing....percussion, piano/organ and some backup instruments. I can read music but don't know beans about arranging instrumental voices to go with lead charts. If you can help I will indeed be in your debt. Jim Hobbins

CDAUDIO 2 WAV CONVERSION

I am looking for a source code that
converts CDAudio into a WAV file.

Thanks in advance..

Re: CDAUDIO 2 WAV CONVERSION

there is a very easy way of doing that:
what you do is you play the track you want to convert.at the same time start recording on sound recorder, then save it. and that's all there is to it. make sure there are no other sounds going on.

I don't think it's a good idea to convert MIDI files to MP3 because Midis are much smaller and it makes no difference in quality.

Anyway, you should first convert the midi to wav then to mp3.

Re: Mid 2 Mp3 ???

You could always go from MID to WAV and then to MP3. Check out this quick primer on converting WAV to MIDI and vice versa at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_101/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_101/</a>.

Why are you trying to back up audio cd`s?.....
Any way the problem may be that the cd you are trying to copy was created in a different way to the way which you are creating them.....as far as i know the only thing you can do is to remove tracks from what you are writing....

It sounds as though you are having this problem a lot.....I have had it once.....and that was with a compilation 'long' cd...Try copying a cd which has a small number of tracks on it....about 13...if if really try they you fit about 20 song tracks onto a cd......

still stuck?

email me with more info and I wil I see what I can to do to help...

II-1. Q: How do I decode to .WAV using Winamp?
A: Click the system button (upper-left corner of Winamp), and it's under Options -> Preferences ->
Input (select a plug-in and click on Configure) -> Output. Change the Output Device to ".WAV file
writer." The next time you hit the play button, an interface will pop up asking you want to name the
WAV, and it decodes!

Hey!

If you have WinAmp, its really easy to convert from MP3 to WAV... Just select "Nullsoft Disk Writer Plug-In" as the output plugin in "Preferences"!

transpose

I am looking for a software that will let me change the key in a wave file .
And if possible I would like to be able to print out sheet music.
But I would like to put the music into any key I want and rerecord it back to a cd or cassette tape if I can
find software to change the key I have the ability to put it on cd or tape.
Thanks Terry

Re: transpose

It`s almost so hard to change key in a wave file like in music recorded on a casette tape. However wave editors are able to do this. If it is a mutter of 2, 3 semitones a song sounds quait good but biger changes distor music. To transponse wave file use for example cool 96 editor.

Encoding Quality (128K,160K,192K,256K)

Why do people encode mp3's above 128K? Aren't CD's 128K and 44kHz? I see many mp3's encoded up to 160k, 192k, and even 256k? Does this make any difference? How can you get more quality than when you started? Is it because mp3 is a lossy compression, and you loose less the higher you encode? Is there any difference when converting an mp3 of 160k,192k,256k back to wav to put on a CD? Doesn't that convert it back to CD quality (128K, 44kHz)? Please explain this to me if possible.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Encoding Quality (128K,160K,192K,256K)

1st point - why encode at higher than 128kbit
People encode mp3 at a higher bitrate for higher quality. CD is not 128kbit, CD is more like 150Kilobyte (!!) a second, so the bitrate is MUCH higher than mp3 (which is the whole point of mp3). As always with compression the AMMOUNT of compression (how much you reduce the file size by) is inversely proportional to the quality of the final compressed produt. So increasing your bitrate will increase your quality.
2) Why encode at higher than 44.1K
If you were just encoding off CD there would be no reason why, but people often sample an analogue audio source into their PCs at 48K - if you have a high end sound card you can do this (eg if you want to sample and encode a track of Vinyl). Otherwise the source may have been digital, but not CD (ie DAT, which is 48K).

Hope this helps

Re: Encoding Quality (128K,160K,192K,256K)

You can hear the difference between 128 and 160. Rip a song, encode one at 128 and one at 160 and you can hear the difference. It's a lot clearer.

Yes you're right. MP3 is lossy compression. 128Kbits/sec sounds like CD quality to most listeners however some listeners will be able to hear frequency changes at this level. CDs are actually 16bits x 44,100samples x 2channels(stereo) = 1,422,200 bits/sec. You can get lossless compression at around 700,000 bits/sec - the higher the rate the better the quality.

OK, I agree, but I think I hear better quality
with Fraunhofer at 256kB/s than Blade at 320kB/s.
Correct me please, if I'm wrong.
Anyone other, who has absolute hearing and detected
such a fact ?

That's a very comprehensive series of questions. Are you doing an assignment or story ;). You can find out more details on MP3 at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_109/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_109/</a> as well as an article on the difference between WAV, MP3 and MIDI at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_105/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_105/</a>.

Can I use a software synth with Cubase Light?

Hi!
I'm a novice with technology but I do know how to use
Cubase programs quite well - I have usually used a
hardware midi synthesizer. I was running this on Atari
with a Pro 24 program - the Atari is now dead. I am a
financially restricted Uni composition student and have
managed to purchase a Power Mac 6100/66 Dos compatible
computer - I only have 16 meg of ram so I unable to run
my Cubase AV. I have Cubase light and to save me buying
a mini macman to connect my MU5 tone generator I was
wondering if there was any way to connect either the
Quick Time Software synth or any other Software Synth.
I have mucked around with lots of downloads, OMS patches
etc but as I do not really understand what I am doing I
am driving myself slowly crazy. If anyone out there can
help it would be really appreciated.

Akai-Disk frontends? / FX-software

does anyone know if there exist more than one
frontends for the Akai-Disk tool?

I'm always in search for useful (!) effect-programs.
anyone knows where to find some?

where to find a software-compressor

where can I find a useful software-audio-compressor?
and by the way... I'm also searching for a good
realtime spectrum analyzer.

Re: where to find a software-compressor

: where can I find a useful software-audio-compressor?
: and by the way... I'm also searching for a good
: realtime spectrum analyzer.

Have you looked through this site yet? I just did a couple of searches here and found heaps of stuff for example:

o <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FACompressor/">F.A.Soft Compressor for Windows 95</a>
o <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Renaissance_compressor_pc/">Renaissance Compressor for Windows for Windows 95</a>
o <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Renaissance_compressor/">Renaissance Compressor for Macintosh</a>
o <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Audio_Suite/">Audio Suite v3.12 for Windows 95</a>
o <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Dynasone_mac/">VST Dynasone™ PlugIn 1.4 for Macintosh</a>
o <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Native_Power_Pack_bundle_32/">Native Power Pack bundle for Windows 95</a>

There were heaps more than this... but you get the point - click on "Search" at the top of the screen and start downloading, there are heaps of spectrum analyzers but I'll leave that for you to look up yourself.

Recording a band with cubase or cakewalk

Hi there!
Does anyone work with audio recording systems like Cubase/Cakewalk/Logic and DS2416(+AX44)? How does that work together? Is there a better way to record with a dsp-based PC card? Which one is it???

Thanks for answers!

Help converting Cakewalk .WRK file to .MOD/.S3M Format.

Does anyone know of a method of converting a Cakewalk .WRK file to .MOD or .S3M

I am on a game development team, and have been composing in Cakewalk only to find out that the Unreal engine only supports "tracker" files.

There are several work arounds, but I want to continue to compose in Cakewalk, especially since I paid for it!

This seems real simple if you could export the event list from Cakewalk.

Please reply via email if you have the answers!
