Which one is the best sound card?

Which one is the best sound card for midi composition?
I want the best sound for classical music, as well as great audio suport. Yamaha XG, Sound Blaster Live, Terratec,...?
If you own one of this or another great sound card, please tell me your experience.
Thanks

Re: Which one is the best sound card?

Hi.
I would seriously recommend either the Terratec EWS 64 S, or the SoundTrack 128 DDMA (www.hoontech.com). They are both dream-chip based and have RAM based sounds. At present time there is a 10 meg GS bank which is good (The Soundblaster 32 AWE has 2 Meg), and a 32 Meg is on it´s way, with VERY nice strings for example, good for classical music. Also, you get several good soundbanks with strings, acoutic basses etc. They´re buth 199$, I believe.
You can buy a digital bracket for the cards, and also some external boxes, which gives you a very good sound.
Good luck, Victor

korg 12/12 is worth the price

If you are looking for real crystal clear digital audio
sound threw s/pdif or adat audio ins and outs
the korg 12/12 card is the best I have used
and easiest to work with in windows environment
the analog ins and out are also excellent
they use 1/4 inch plugs as most other sound modules
use also. it is expensive but is worth the price
I have eard good things about the new yamaha cards
but don't know about their digital audio capabilities.

re: has the korg 12/12 card been discontinued

please could you let me know if the korg 12/12 has been discontinued. if it has not then could you let me know where i could buy one. also does this card have midi with 2 ins 2 outs thanks

AWE32 rules over all

Soundblaster awe32 is the king of the cards. I've had mine for 4 years now and it still kicks all the other cards into touch. midi quality is superior and with the option of extra memory, you have the ultimate in music media....

No diggity no doubt

AWE32 is a piece of crap.. ~~~>

It is card for gamers, not for any just a little
bit serious musicians: it has a lot of noise
and it is not really 16bit card: it has something
like "full duplex 16bit emulation" with 8/8 bits..
So, go for MidiMan DMan PCI or 2044, Yamaha XG or
XG1000 o rbetter DSP Factory....
But you`ll be fine with Midiman DMan PCI

All previously mentioned sites don't work.

Re: ReBirth Manual

Hey there,

The guys at <a href="http://www.steinberg.de/">Steinberg</a> should be able to help you out with a manual if you don't have one.

Midi to Mus converter

What is actually MUS format?
And how to convert MIDI to MUS?

Mark

Re: Midi to Mus converter

Finale from Codamusic uses the extension MUS for its specific file format.
Maybe other applications name their files the same. For writing Finale
MUS files, of course, use Finale from www.codamusic.com .

removing music from a narrative

HELP. Can anyone recommend software for editing out background music from a narritive?

Re: removing music from a narrative

Hello there,

This isn't really possible to any great degree with current shareware. If you're lucky you might be able to find recordings that allow you to record the left or right channel, but more often that not you'll find the narratives are mixed in such a way that it's nigh upon impossible to edit the music without editing the speech. If you can manually turn off the music, leaving the narrator to talk you will be able to capture the sound with a variety of <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/categories/Audio/software.shtml">audio software</a>. If you can't, I don't think you'll be able to do it.

Cheers

Geoff

Beyond algorithmic composing software you'll find...

...collaborative computer music software. At least, that is
what I am looking for. If you have written any, or know of any,
please let me know. If you are interested in starting a project in
this area, also let me know.

If you are still puzzled about what I mean, I can explain. Picture an
ethernet network of several computers. All of the PCs are running software that
let's them listen to what music is being played, and join in when they know how to
contribute(JAM!). One or more humans are involved and may guide the direction of the
music. This goes way beyond BinaB!

You can post a reply, but let me know, ok?

Test Tone Generator for Win95. WHERE???

Hi.
I've been looking for a (preferably free) PC program for generating .WAV files containing high SNR, low THD sine waves at different frequences and sample rates. I found one for the Mac in this site, but nothing for the PC so far. I need those files to test my sound card I/O. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
Carl

Re: Test Tone Generator for Win95. WHERE???

This should do it ... shareware, but for your purposes the time limit won't matter. You've probably found something, ditched the S/C or stopped reading this post bynow tho ;)

Help me I´m in hell!

Ok, so maybe my definition of hell is a little diferent from yours..I have this problem with Cubasis AV, when I press play i get a message that says the sync is lost, playback failed, check the audio device. What can I do to make it work????????

Re: Help me I´m in hell!

It was really annoying for me too. But I managed to do it.
In cubase there is a thing called midi set up. It always appeares when you finished
cubase installing. Go there and you`ll probably find a few midi out devices. In my case
-I`ve got SB awe64- there were 4 or 5 devices. When I disabled one of them (I don`t remamber which)
everything suddenlly started working. Just try to disabled one after another
every midi out and run cubase to check for any changes. I thing you`ll find pritty soon
which midi device caused you the problem.
Hope it helps
Kris
PS. Sorry for spelling

New at this I need help

Cubase VST - Audio Echo!!!

Hopefully, someone here may have some tips or has experienced this same problem. I'm currently trying to record some guitar tracks/Vocal tracks, but when I'm playing guitar or doing vocals the actual audio seems to be delayed or pauses for '1' second before I see it on the Audio levels, and it then plays it back. So, in a sense I'm playing in a delayed or echoed type of situation.
From what I see, VST should be all real-time correct? I can't see this delay in sending the audio to Cubase to be something others have dealt with, but I'm hoping someone can tell me what is causing this. There is no delay to the sound card, as I hear it instantaneously, but VST seems to not recieve the audio until about 1/2 second or so later.
FYI - Hardware / Software specs.
I'm using a Pentium II - 333 / 32Mgs / SB Live Card and Cubase VST 3.65. Mackie 1202VLZ/Pro.

Thanks to anyone who could help.

Re: Cubase VST - Audio Echo!!!

Yeah I'm experiencing the exact same problem and would be greatful to anyone who could solve it.

Hey thats normal.
Due to the latency,( the time a digital signal needs to be processed ) you hear these strange ehoes. This is a general problem in HD recording.
Go to "System" and switch to global off on the monitoring button. Now those echoes should disappear. Use a normal outboard mixer to monitor and to control your signal.

Re: atari pc midi files

: :problem is my pc can`t read atari floppys

Your Atari should be able to read from and
write to a PC floppy though, so put a PC floppy
in the Atari, write the tune to it, and then
take it back to the PC. I Have an old Atari 520
STFM and a newer PC, and the old Atari needs the
PC to format the floppy to 720K in order to be
able to use the disk, but if your Atari had a
larger floppy drive then you won't
even need to do that! Cool eh? ATB, Steveski.

Re: atari pc midi files

:problem is my pc can`t read atari floppys

The following worked for me when transferring files from Atari
to PC: use a disk which is formatted on the PC to 720 KB. There is
a special DOS format command parameter for this (which I don't remember
right now...). This disk is write- and readable on both systems.

Harald
