Best prog for editing music/video ??

I am wanting to add music to video and wanted to get opinions on best program - powerful but easy to use.

Frequency of Voice

Can anyone tell me what the perfect frequency is just to capture Voice? I am into remixing and am trying to capture the Lyrics from songs, and don't want any music captured as well

Additionally does anyone know of any software that will capture just the lyrics from a song?

Most of the information from human voice is in the 500 Hz to 3500 Hz range but you will not have much luck trying to filter this out of a song (for instance) since there are many other signals in this range and transients (such as drums) contain energy across a fairly wide spectrum. Your best bet is to try to filter the main vocals (I assume this is what you are after) by using the stereo positioning of the vocal track. Most vocals are mixed equally onto the left and right track of a song whereas instruments are often mixed more to one side or other. A filter that removes any part of the signal that is not in both tracks can help to isolate the main vocals. Many circuits for this type of thing have been published in hobby electronics magazines. Don't know of anything commercial off-hand .... this technique is very similar to what stereos with a "karaoke" setting do.

Hope this helps.

remove lead and background vocals

I AM THE SONG LEADER FOR OUR YOUTH PRAISE TEAM IN MY FATHER'S CHURCH AND THEIR ARE MANY SONGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SING, BUT THEIR ARE NO TRACKS FOR THEM! IS THEIR A WAY THAT I COULD TAKE OUT THE LEAD AND BACKGROUND VOCALS AND MAKE MY OWN TRACK!

DID YOU FIND ANYTHING TO DO THAT WITH YET. I AM LOOKING FOR THE SAME THING

Re: Frequency of Voice

SharpHarp, one additional complexity of your requirement is that your are not trying to remove the vocal, but on the contrary are trying to remove everything but the vocal.

Since I presume you are trying to do something a little more sophisticated than a simple karaoke song, you may want to use software that will extract a CD track to a wave file and a Wave editor to remove exactly what you want. Thus your removal would be tailored to the individual song. This is not a luxury that karaoke players have since they must work in real time.

If this is too ambitious for you the quick and dirty way would be to get a graphics equalizer with as many bands as possible or a 4 band parameteric eq, and experiment with removing the high and low frequency bands (use roll-off filters if your eq has one). There is no guideline to tell exactly what the frequency range should be, as it will depend on whether its a male vs. female or the key of the song, or even if its the bridge instead of the verse.

The type of filter Col suggested, with adjustable frequency range that you could tailor to the song and adjust while its playing would be the best real-time solution.

The DIN standard for voice frequency is 20Hz to 20kHz.

I can't help with the software though.

Re: Frequency of Voice

The vocal range for a voice is from about 50 to 8,000 Hz. Most instruments can go alot higher that that...Most CD's have a range of 30 to 15,000 Hz on them. If you are just looking for voice you only need a band of 300 to 3400 Hz (that is what your telephone captures)to be able to understand who is talking. That ought to filter out some of the instruments, but you will find you will still hear alot of them after your done mixing.

20Hz to 20Khz is the human *hearing* range not vocal range!

Re: perfect Voice frequency

Well, humans can hear frequencies from 20Hz to 20kHz. And the frequencies at which they speak and sing vary. Mariah Carey's highs are at a much higher frequency than Isaac Hayes' lows. There is not a perfect frequency that will separate vocals from music.
Using multi-track tapes that already have vocals separated would be ideal, though it would be difficult, if not impossible, to get your hands on the original Hi-8s of most recordings. Try using a sampler or an online remix site. There may even be software that works as a plug-in or something. What kind of hardware are you using?

Am looking for the best music making software.

Like I have said before,I am looking for the best music software. I want something good, but there are so many options. All I have is a home computer with a decent soundcard and speakers.

the best is digidesign 001

the best music software for musicians is the digidesign
001 package, for you non-trained music engineers
interested with music software,
i'll keep the dump list short. "sound blaster", don't use
anything for music recording, editing with sound blaster cards
real audio cards cost about $1000, like dsp factory.

Maybe I could help

I am an audio software engineer, I use audio software quite a bit you can imagine. If you need any help/assistance feel free to email me.

Are you talking about creating your own music?
If so, you'll need some sort of piano style keyboard, a synth with a midi interface built in.
And then you'll need a midi sequencer. There are demos and freeware ones here at SMM. I use Cakewalk and love it. Look in the midi section on this site, you'll find something you can use. Good luck to you.

MUSIC MIXING SOFTWARE

i am looking for a program that you can edit music files mp3s etc and you can record yourself singin and put it on the music file please help me e-mail me @ nat2002mnc@aol.com

You'll need a synth/keyboard with midi-in and midi-out. Your soundcard will need a midi interface built in. Midi cable from keyboard to sound card. Ciao.

Re: help my mac and my akai s2000 sampler get along, please.

Either you need to have your Akai running the 2.0 OS, or you need to replace the MESA II scsi plug with the original one from MESA I.
I'd advise updating your s2000 to akai's new 2.0 OS.
find out how to do it on akai's website (akaipro.com)

The optional url link at the bottom of these submission form is the place you can put your website's address

Possible to burn CD from record/cassette?

Is it possible to burn a CD from an LP or a cassette? How?

Re: Possible to burn CD from record/cassette?

hook your cassete deck up to your "lne in" on your sound card. Then use a .wav recorder to create a wave file as the cassette is playing. Use adaptec easy cd creator to put the .wav file into .cda format which can be read by any CD player. (you can do this with mp3's also, convert them to wav then use adaptec to create an audio CD.

Re: Possible to burn CD from record/cassette?

>>: hook your cassete deck up to your "lne in" on your sound card<<

Would this mean that the resultant music file is in mono and not stereo, since the "line-in" is a single input?

No. The number of inputs is not related to the number of channels. Many single inputs/outputs carry both left and right channels (stereo). For example, when was the last time you plugged your stereo headphones into two jacks?

Hi Mike

are you still there...?
I'm looking for an early version of cakewalk say between V4-5, so that I can smoothly sync it with samplitude studio on my not-so-speedy PC.

Convert WAVE to MIDI

Now I don't believe there are any programs around yet which can do a reasonable job of converting WAVE to MIDI but there is a program on this site which has received some favourable comment and I thought the people on this discussion board might be interested.

It's called 'WIDI' and you can get it at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/WIDI/

It can't distinguish diferent instruments but it does look interesting.

Anybody interested in reciprocal distribution of cool CD's UK/US

Hi there,
Ghostjogger is a microlabel operating in Sheffield UK. We have a selection of cool artists on our roster. People doing post rock and experimental pop stuff etc.
We're looking for people who do a similar thing ie doing their own distribution without the bad vibes of major commercial distributors. We do a sale-or-return policy
on material sent to us. We would love some more contacts in America, Australia, NZ and anywhere else around the world who would be interested in hooking up with us.
Death to money sucking muzak purveyors!
Ole!
Hope to hear from you a.s.a.p.

Michael.

any good music printing software?

I'm looking for a program that can not only print musical scores as i enter my desired melody (e.g. from the computer keyboard), but one that can also interpret (convert to musical notes) a musical input (e.g. from a microphone or even mp3 or wav files).
Is this even possible?
Perhaps I would have to isolate specific instruments from an existing songs before I can translate it to musical score, suitable for playing on a single instrument (e.g. piano).

Re: any good music printing software?

Did anyone ever answered this question about tranfering MP3 file into sheet music?
