I cannot open or play my downloads from kazaa- they are in a .dat format and i need to convert them to mp3 so i can play them. please help !!! kevin

DO NOT TURN DATS INTO MPGS BEFORE THEY ARE COMPLETE. Let them finish in Kazaa or you will end up with imperfect files. They may seem fine, but how do you know they are not of lesser quality then the original? Also, if everybody does this, the quality of all video files will deteriorate exponentially, which has already started. Don't make the problem worse.

using cuteftp find the file and right click and say 'rename' then simply chage the extension from .dat into .mp3 ... simple aye?

finishe the download!
if u dono how, then simply copy the .dat files in you shared folder, the start up kazza.
TRAFFIC--finish the download.

im sure you dont want half songs or???

Just a guess, but aren't the DAT files the files that are yet to be completed as downloads?

In the My Shared folder window. GO to tools, folder options, view then unchq the hide extensions of known file types.. apply.. then rename the *.dat file to.. crapwhatfileisthisone.mp3

I had the same problem with kazaa lite, and it's not because it isn't done. Doesn't anyone know DOS anymore? Make it simple, rename the file in windows to "a" or something simple so you can find it as "a.dat". Start a command prompt, go to your shared folder, and type something similiar to:

rename a.dat nickelback-someday-clean.mp3

And viola, it's an mp3. Hope this helps.

Just rename the bloody file to anyname.mp3 and maybe read a book or two as well...

Have had the same problem, and NO it's not just cuz they aint finished downloading yet.
I know for Win2K you need a plug in to go with winmedia....there's a post link bout it on www.webopedia.com If I recall correctly it's a VCD I-0n-I plug-in, or somethin soudin similar. Now I'm XP...so god knows.

I got the same problem. the d/l are completed but the dat files don't convert to mp3. they're still in my shared folder even though they don't show up in the kazaa traffic window anymore. please help!
