What's the difference between ACID Pro and Sound Forge?

Posted by Joshua Starr on Sat, 04/27/02 - 17:39:19.

I already have ACID Pro 3.0b and I love it but have recently been looking into Sound Forge 5.0 and would like to know what exactly the difference is between the two. I record both in an experimental hardcore/jazz band and solo as an ambient/experimental/jazz/techno artist. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sound fordge is more for editing your music, much like pro tools and sound edit-16.

Interesting style

I don't know much about either program. However, ACID was designed to be a multitrack audio "paint" program, and Sound Forge was designed to be an audio editor. This difference alone would dictate that certain features will be more or less prominent. I would imagine that ACID's multitracking and "looping" features would be more advanced than its editing features. Meanwhile, Sound Forge's editing features are for sure more advanced than its multitracking features. This could all change, of course, but this is the general trend in software. As programs evolve, the developers sometimes add on more and more features. This can be good or bad.

I do know that Sound Forge has been gaining more and more video-related functions, and a bit more import/export support for internet-related files.

Acid, on the other hand, is designed to work best with sample loop kits and ready-made audio.
