A nice alternative to cassettes and CDs and files... Posted by Macintorch (the artist formerly known as THE LOGICAL GUY) (from: 216.192.152.146) on May 31, 2002 at 11:05:24: Recently my mom threw away her old broken VCR. Well, not exactly. I rescued it from oblivion. The cable input was broken, but the rca inputs and outputs were ok. So.... I turned it into a remote - controlled 3 track tape recorder! Yep, I use the two audio inputs and outputs as well as the video input/output as a third track. It has some nice advantages. The included dBx TV noise reduction sounds great on my recordings. Absolutely no analog tape hiss. Another nice feature is the ability to jump from recording to recording via the index markers. This is like having a DAT machine all over again for really cheap. Also, I can switch from mono L or R or mixed to stereo. I'm not even using the display yet, but when I do, I'll be able to set timed recordings and stuff. This is a really nice and simple kind of tool for an audio geeeek like me spoiled by low-noise recordings. Eventually, I will be turning the video track into a digital audio SPDIF track as soon as I am able to acquire all the parts. Well cheers. Follow Ups: Re: They like their compression...
