NEED software "MUSIC PRINTER PLUS"

Posted by MaryMusic on Thu, 01/23/03 - 23:03:51.

A Trojan virus destroyed my computer. I had saved ten years of music composition on disc, so those were not lost. BUT the DOS-based program I used to write and read the notation was iretrievably gone. Any one know where I can get/BUY a copy of "Music Printer Plus"??? It was one of the first easy-to-use notation software in the early '90's. The company went out of business some years ago, and my hard copy books are also lost.

OR,if not, how can I read/edit/print or convert the DOS files saved on disc withOUT MPP??

mp1 to finale

I have old Music Printer Plus files with extensions: .mp1, .esq, and .prm. Best solution, I would like to convert the mp1 files to Finale 2010. I had orchestrated a Charles Griffes piece and would very much like to retrieve it. Any help available? I have a mac OS 10.4.11. If I can't convert, maybe I could print the score or play the sound file (I don't recall which one is the sound file.}

Recordare considering including MusicPrinter Plus

Recordare is considering including MusicPrinter Plus as an import in their file conversion program Music XML. I wouldn't hurt to encourage them. You can write them at Recordare Information <info@recordare.com>

Here's the response I got from them:
Dear Mr. Clough,

Thank you for your interest in Recordare's file translation services.
Unfortunately we cannot translate from Music Printer Plus files at this
time. However, this has been requested before and we are considering
adding Music Printer Plus support. We will be happy to contact you
should this service becomes available in the future.

Best regards,

Need to view mp1 files

Mr. Cooper,
If you can send me a copy of Music Printer Plus that will run on my mac G5, I will send you a copy of my orchestration of "The Fountain of the Acqua Paola" by Griffes.

I don't know whther I have the answer for you but

See http://www.iaje.org/article.asp?ArticleID=143

which mentions MusicPrinter Plus and has a link to

musicxml program. On that site they have translation services (probably forbiddingly expensive ) you
can submit your need to convert MPP to Finale and other formats :

Re: NEED software "MUSIC PRINTER PLUS"

I have copies of MPP's manuals and original floppies for versions 4.0 and 4.1. However, testing them on a new computer with a DOS partition, although they seem to load without problem, both versions refuse to proceed after initial setup screens. Writing now only to let you know I may be able to help. I will try loading the software onto an older 486 system to see if that's more successful. (I know of no conversion program to read MMP files into another newer notation program. At one time, Sibelius porducer was offering a price discount to owners of MMP who changed to Sibelius. You might try contacting them to see if they had prepared a conversion utility. Are you using Sibelius now?)

Re: NEED software "MUSIC PRINTER PLUS"

Dear MaryMusic-
I am in a similar situation. My hard drive crashed some years ago, taking my music files with it. I threw out my Music Printer Plus when I was forced to upgrade to Windows (and Sibelius) then recently found a disc with my .MP1 files on it. I am looking for a way to convert or at least read them. If you find a copy of MMP would you let me know. I will do likewise. Thanks.

Re: NEED software "MUSIC PRINTER PLUS"

I still have the original disk (MPP4.1) and a copy somewhere (but I've moved house and can't locate it for the moment). My original disk has however used up its two install-keys and I haven't got any working copy of the programm on a pc. I don't work with dos any more, my pc's run under Win XP pro... I myself would like to record my former MPP parts (a couple of hundreds) but for the moment, I find this impossible. I would like to help you out, but this could take some time. Keep in touch!

Re: NEED software "MUSIC PRINTER PLUS"

I have located MPP 4.1 and it's small enough to be be zipped and emailed. The Installs still work on the floppy.

Also, I've developed a set of steps you need to convert the MP1s to MIDI if you want to import into your current sequencer of choice. I now use Finale.

The steps require the MPP file to be clean. I remember that MPP allows you to redundantly place notes and dots on top of each other. This cause the MIDI out to be funny. The only way to avoid is to convert to MIDI, look at the results, then fix the MPP file, and then try again.

Help!

I know this post is 12 years old but you never know if you don't try!

My grandfather has used MPP for over 20 years now and has come down with dementia and can no longer continue his works. All of his equipment and orchestrations (thousands of songs) are being left to me, however, his computer is finally on its last leg and I am urgently trying to preserve his music. My intent is to install MPP on a DOS virtual machine (via Win 7 Ultimate) and then copy the contents of his DOS machine HDD to my current machine and then over time convert his work to MIDI.

Unfortunately the original install disks that he had to MPP, no longer exist (I'm assuming lost or thrown away over a cross country move and just time.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. And I am willing to share some of his arrangements, should you be interested. Please email me: brennan.pixton@ravenswift.net

Regards,
Brennan

Help offered and wanted!

I have sent you an email - I have a copy of MPP 4.1 but I have no manual and can't remember how it works and how to export to midi or even how to print to scan some of the music I have into my current music program.

I can help you and wonder if, by any chance, you can help me? (My offer is not dependent on you being able to help me!) :)
