After years of paying inflated prices for CD's that never had the push of payola or "sale" prices... I feel no remorse for the public revolting against organized music's stranglehood and monopolistic control over the industry. The lack of vision as far as marketing new talent... and complete disregard for the public's taste is evident bu the "clones" produced of any band that breaks the top ten. Now they seek to use these clones as spokepersons to reinforce their control over the freedom and diversity that file swapping creates. "Sharing" exposes listeners to an incredible amount of unheard and unpromoted bands... some of which are not even American. The amount of cultural diversity shared through file swapping has created sales for overseas retailers as well as Americans who export. This effort to control the "free" movement of sounds between nations as well as Americans smacks of protectionism. An industry that has had total control over what we hear on radio now cries "foul" because freedom of choice has run rampant on the Internet. Now only the best out there make the sale... on an "even" playing field... where sales are no longer determined through radio overkill...or promotion and payola...but by the public's own determination of what it is willing to listen to...and pay for. Filesharing is the ultimate "test" drive of music product. People will still buy music when they have found what appeals to them....only this time it is what THEY like to hear...or collect...not what radio or MTV has tried to dictate. The RIAA seeks to placate a mismanaged and once corpulent dinosaur. There's a new world coming...Get on the bus Gus...not the "A" train. Stop "A"lienating the customer...he's never wrong! Free markets determine sales...look at the VHS lawsuit and tell me it doesn't. Stay off of them blue suede shoes!
