I know what balanced cables are, and why. I am surprised to hear though, that anyone has a balanced output on their synth. What make and model is it? I am interested.. I re-read your original question and it seems that your problem is how to connect you synth to your PC. You wrote that you synth has three outputs. 'Use the Unbalanced outputs'. Unless you are running the cable over a load of other signals and power cables, you wont notice any difference in quality. Unbalanced comes into it's own on long distances because of it's excellent RF rejection. As far as the volume is concerned, you have to find the right volume setting on your synth for the input on the computer. Check that the input is selected as a line input on your computer mixer (it's a Windows PeeCee right?) and that the fader is not either side of the correctly marked '0" point and you should be able to get away with a reasonable signal if your keyboard is outputting around 80-100% it's total volume. Every synth maybe different in some way so like i've said, you will have to judge it with your ears. If that doesn't work, maybe it's time to buy a decent audio card with a proper unbalanced input. An M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is highly recommended..
