Accessing the Inputs of a Mutli Track Recorder

Hello!

I have a Power mac. G3 (OS 8.6) and have connected to it a multi-track recorder (Layla - by Echo). I am writing some software and need to acceess each of the eight inputs available on the Layla. However, I am having difficulty doing so. I am using QuickTIme 4 and can only access one of the inputs. Also, QT 4 allows me to obtain the number of channels available on the device and rather than 8, it indicates only 2. Does anyone know how I could access each of these eight inputs?
