looking for a MP3 player to play selection

I need an MP3 player that can be commanded (perhaps via command line argument) to play only a section of a MP3 file. For example, you invoke it with the name of the MP3 and tell it to play starting 20 seconds in, for 10 seconds then close (or maybe loop). Anyone have any ideas if there is such a thing?
Worst case we could use a player that supports playing intro slices...
