MIDI Bass Sound

The MIDI sound I haven't been able to get yet is the soft thumping bass that underpins a lot of music - you don't really hear it so much as feel it supporting the music. All the MIDI bass voices I have are too crisp and I haven't been able to figure out how to soften them.

I can convert MIDI to .wav; no problem. But I'm not experienced enough with FX to know what to do t get the sound I'm looking for.

With not being sure what your using, I'm going to asume your sequencing with something. That being the case I've been known to to have as many as three tracks(different sounds on each) to get THAT particular sound I'm after AND I read the other response and he's absolutely righ too!!
It doesn't necessarily have to be a bass.......A Rhodes sound at the low register could have that effect.

I am searching for a good midi to wav conversion program. Just bought Cakewalk Home Studio 9,testing it out. What program are you using?

Re: MIDI Bass Sound

Have you ever tried using sounds that aren`t listed as bass sounds (organs, flutes, etc.) and play them an octave down or so?
Also, you should always hear the bass sound in the overall mix, many of the "crisps" then disappear!
