Hello, My name is Kevin. I am interested in the aid of a few programmers willing to give up a little time each week to help along a music related project. This project will run on various platforms, with the same look and feel (as much as can be done based on each platforms GUI capabilities) on each platform. The project is mostly for MIDI initially. But plans to support audio and video are already being looked at. Infact, the whole project will model real-world studios, yet be configurable in an unlimited number of ways to support all types of personalities, from home hobbyists, to students needing tutorials, to professional studio users. The "core" of the project is almost done. It includes a multi-platform plugin engine, complete multi-platform messaging system for all plugins, the engine and the executable, XML based configuration utilities to read/write XML files to load/save configuration preferences, and more. The Win32 version is being worked on right now, with a complete front-end main window and menuing system in place so plugins can add new menu items. Status and Tool bars will be implemented soon. I would like some developers to help start testing the plugin engine on Win32 initially. I will be doing the port to Linux after some plugin stuff has been thoroughly tested on Win32. I will also be doing a Mac port and a BeOS port sometime next year or the year after. YES..I did say "the year after" because frankly this project is a "side" project when I have time. I want whoever is interested to know that this is a "when you have time" but it is also high priority for me. Its hard juggling 12 hour days at work, family and this project, but I tend to put in 20 or so hours a week on it. Sometimes less, sometimes more. That is the reason for the longevity of the project. The more developers I can get in helping out with plugins and testing of plugins, the faster it can be up and running. I cant pay anyone. Infact, the prorgram will be given away for free. Plugin developers are left to decided if they want to sell plugins or not, but the main program, complete with track editor, event editor, piano roll, etc (figure a "basic" midi sequencer) is free on all platforms. Another thing this program will be for is game developers. I am hoping the performance is good enough to allow game developers to easily include the engine itself into their games which would add a complete midi/audio/soundFX engine. They would merely pass the engine messages to trigger sounds, songs, sequences, etc. Anyways, I'll wrap this up. If you would be interested in this project, please email me at: i_am_linux@yahoo.com. That is my forwarding email address. I am a fan of Linux! :) Thanks for all that are interested.
