I'm running two computer systems: a PC with Logic, HD rec and softsynths - and an Atari running Notator sequencer only. There are also a bunch of outboard synth and FX modules (served via a 1-in-8-out midi thru box) to and from which I need to send/receive sysex dumps and patch info. Sometimes I want the Atari to be the boss, drive the external modules and the softsynths on the PC. In this case the PC is like an extra "module". Other times I want the PC and Logic/SoundDiver to be in charge, with the flexibility that environments, editing etc provide. This has presented me with what seems a midi configuration nightmare. At the moment all I have in the way of midi routers are the thru box and a home-made midi switch that lets me route sysex dumps one at a time from the modules to the Atari. Rather klutzy but quite ok when there was only the Atari! I have the loan of a Motu Midi Timepiece but so far it has gathered dust as I do not have the appropriate spare IRQs to run it. It's an older Motu version, has a huge ISA card, is obviously designed for Mac users and screwed with my well-working PC audio system. Enough self-torture :-) Audio cards used are GadgetLabs Wave/4 (used for midi/audio) and SBLive Value (used for soundfonts). Can some of you midi experts suggest what I need to have the whole rig working transparently together without constant re-plugging of midi cables and the one-at-a-time midi switch? Thanks!
