What about patchbay program under WinXP?

Hello,

The Windows XP driver is installed and passes MIDI in and out (thanks for the link posted here), but it doesn't come with an updated control panel/patchbay utility, and the one from the Win95 driver doesn't seem to work.

Has anyone been able to get the patchbay program running under WinXP?

Cheers,

Matt.

Re: where can i find the drivers ?

There isn't a driver for win98se, it is not impossible to get the 95 driver to work on 98se, but very difficult. I would stick to win98 ver 4.10.1998, or jump 98se and go with winME. If you are very clever, it is possible to get the 64x driver to work in 98se using a win applet called MKCOMPAT, but this is a very lengthy trial and error process.

Re: where can i find the drivers ?

all opcode drivers, even the Windows NT beta driver can be found at :
www.marting.demon.co.uk/interface/opcode.html

you guys are great!!!Opcode problem solved

my Opcode always worked fine once I understood the Port/IRQ relationship (had to re-install WIN98 a couple of time over the last 2 years I have had my Opcode 64X).
I changed my motherboard a couple of weeks ago while upgrading my Pentium II 350 AT system to a AMD 700 ATX system. For some reason I only got the Opcode to work once, when I restarted the computer the next day it was gone again. Yesterday by chance I found this website and read some of the ideas for solving technical problems.
I tried starting the 64X-not found - I then rechecked Logic Audio-Opcode was not available. I updated the registry entry for Advanced Management for the COM ports as described in some of the postings on this page AND IT WORKS - I restarted the computer and there it was!!! No error message when starting the 64X setup and available without a squeak under my Logic Audio.
I thought I was screwed and would have to buy a new interface, but the advice here saved me.
Thanks everyone for the great advice!!!
Question: Does anyone know where to find that Beta NT driver? I'm thinking of buying the upcoming Logic Audio upgrade to version 5 that runs under WIN2000 but would obviously like to avoid having to buy a new interface after all due to the Opcode not having a driver. At the moment I have a dual system setup with WIN98SE & WIN2000. I am only keeping WIN98 because my music software only runs under WIN98 at the moment and because of the Opcode.
Thanks in advance for any information.
Cheers.

Opcode 64X Windows Xp

Just an idea, would it be possible to run a Win98 simulation on WinXp, to get the drivers to work ?

anybody tried this ?

Re: Opcode 64X Windows Xp

Unfortunatly with XP based on the NT/Unix Kernel, there isn't legacy support for the driver to work, if you try to simulate 9x conditions you may be able to open the patch bay without an error message but there won't be an actual connection open between the op box and your com port. the good news is, it will work in winME, which, from a e-music software and hardware compatability standpoint a better way to go then XP for the time being.

Opcode studio64X & Windows2000

After I managed to get the Opcode 64X work with Windows Me, I wanted to try the same for Windows 2000. I only got to the point where I could see the Opcode in the multimedia section of the control panel but the actual driver for the Opcode is not found. I tried both Windows driver as the Windows NT beta driver.

So I'm affraid that the conclusion is that the Opcode will not work under Windows 2000 unless somebody knows how to write a driver for this.
(Opcode is not going to provide this it seems...)

So think before you people upgrade to Windows2000 ...

Re: Opcode studio64X & Windows98se

If you install win95B, and then upgrade using a complete version(not an upgrade) of WinME, it works like a dream. The same works for Studio64XTC, 64X, and the 128 models. Just remember to install your 64x driver as soon as the win95 install is complete, before any other unknown devices, and especially before installing a sound driver with midi capabilities. Install by going into add remove hardware, don't let windows search, instead, you designate the HW, double click sound device, have disk, point the browse to the floppy drive, choose studio64x.drv, not studio64x2.drv, once the diver is installed and the system reboots, then go back to the floppy, run the setup and install, just the patch bay and diagnostics. Verify that all went well, then bust out the WinME and install, but don't forget, dont install any other HW in 95, it will just have to be updated to ME versions anyway, and that type of fussing with the system.ini file is what will result in your opcode box to cease working again.

I recently upgraded my pc to a P4 and since then my Opcode doesn't work anymore. I did the changes you proposed but nothing works.. Perhaps something with the 815 chipset??

Re: Studio 64X, I still have some midi in/out-problems

Hi again! Thanks for the hint about VCOMM- changes. I've already solved my problem by installing an external ISA serial card. But I have still problems :-(... Now my problem is that I can't hear my midikeyboard when I'm recording in Cubase Score VST. When I play my midikeyboard the Transport Bar shows me only the in-signal, not the out-one. But when I pressure play, I can hear my tunes...and it shows the out-signal..Very strange! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Can someone help me to solve my problem....I'll appreiciate every help I can get / Best Regards / Stefan

Re: Studio 64X, I still have some midi in/out-problems

have you checked the thru settings in the midi setup of cubase?

:-)

Hello!

It must have been something wrong with my cubase...I have reinstalled it and now it works.....Thanks for all support!!!

Cheers

Stefan

IT WORKS-IT REALLY WORKS!!!

go to START, RUN and type REGEDIT

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VCOMM

and change 01 00 00 00
to 00 00 00 00

One of the ways I got it to work was to enable the Serial Key Devise setting under Accessibility Controls under the control panel. Make sure you turn off the funcation that shuts it off when its idle!!!

Re: OPCODE Studio 64X driver

I have Windows ME, and had a nicely working Studio 64x, but after a systems crash and format c: I can't seem to get my 64 x to work anymore.
I have the "64_X_102.exe" self-extracting driverfile but when I install it and run the setup and boot, it doesn't work.
I can see the in's and out's in the audio/midi window in control panel and sequencer program (Cakewalk) but when I try to run the patchbay, my PC says that it can't find the driver. I have tried to install it in the Add hardware window too, and everything seems to go ok, but when I boot my PC it still doesn't find the f***ing drivers!
Tried to change com-ports, nothing new cables, nothing, and it all ran fine a few weeks ago! Weird

Any solutions or installation tips???
...are appreciated!

Re: OPCODE Studio 64X driver

Run Regedit.exe to open your system registry.

Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VCOMM

Change your current settings to this:

"StaticVxD"="*VCOMM"
"Start"=hex:00
"EnablePowerManagement"=hex:00,00,00,00

Reboot.
Now it should work.

Or copy all this text between the lines exactly to notepad text editor (or onother text editor), paste the text inside it, and save as fix.reg and doubleclick on this newly creeated fix.reg file.

Hello.

I have had the same problems, but thankfully I had been in contact with a bloke who himself had found the explanation to this random problem.

You need to change something in the registry - aparantly some motherboards apply power to the COM ports, and the 64x doesnt like this.

So, go to START, RUN and type REGEDIT

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VCOMM

and change 01 00 00 00
to 00 00 00 00

That should do it - any questions mail me

Thanks Gareth,

I was tearing my hair out because I was conned in to a USB interface when all along I liked my 64X and was told "ooh no, that'll never work". Well, the USB sucked and your fix solved everything. One stupid number the Opcode pricks can't be bothered informing us CUSTOMERS about.

Thanks to your mate who told me about this.
