I was in the same dilema. First I tried one called "CoolEdit 1.2a". Within a minute after it was installed, we recorded a little test audio on a track. It was an acoustic guitar played thru a cheap computer mike, suitable only for voice mail! We played it back, and then the guitar guy liked it and said he wanted to sing to it. We put that on track two. (recording the tracks is no harder than using sound recorder...easy). Then we hit play, and it sounded like a song. We were impressed, we had always wanted studio equipment! Within a week, we had decent effects added to the guitar and vocals. We soon upgraded to cool edit Pro 2.0 It works just as easy with more tracks and effects. get coolpro (1.2a OR 2.o pro) and youll be happy.

PS ---> I was worried because I only had a wimpy 10 dollar PCI128 creative sound blaster, instead of a big, juicy, new sound card. Cool pro works just fine, and if you fool around with it enough, mixing and remixing to learn how to mix, you casn quickly make a respectable demo CD.Plus, if you ever get access to real sound equipment, youll have an idea what youre doing. Good Luck.

I would say it is logic audio. It's easy to use and it has a very good sequencer. The only thing is you need a key to make it work so you can't use a copy but need to buy the real thing!

Hi there

It's not only the software that's improtnat, but hardware such a mics. Don't forget that :) Anway, <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/">n-track</a> is a great option for people starting out. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_Pro/">Cool Edit Pro</a> and <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/ProTools/">ProTools</a> are also worth it. Both are certainly good to check out.
