I have only owned a PC for about a month. I had been using a Macintosh. The Sony PC doen't have a gameport--which I now know is what I need to connect a midi piano to it. So will be buying a new sound card for the PCI slot. Will the $50 16 bit SoundBlaster card work? All I want to do is play songs on the piano keyboard and have it written as music score with the music notation software I plan to buy. Up til now I just plugged the midi piano into the modem serial port of the Mac and setup was complete-- but I want to switch over to the PC. I have also heard that a midi interface box is one way to go, but doesn't that also need a gameport to plug into? I do have headphone,line-in and microphone ins on the PC. Does the adjacent 9 pin serial port have anything to do with the sound card and making music with a PC? Midi files do play just fine on the internal Micorsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth(whatever that is). Thanks for any advice.
