In Reply to: FOR THE LAST TIME...IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! posted by Andy P on August 31, 2001 at 12:38:25: : As I've said many times before, it's simply not possible to selectively remove particular parts of a track - vocals or instruments. As for inverting the centre channel - what centre channel? Stereo consists of left and right channels, so ho do you get a centre channel from it, and what happens to any instruments that happen to be playing behind the vocalist? : However, if someone would like to prove me wrong, and provide evidence of how this can be done, I'll eat my shoe. : In fact, there are some utilities that will try to remove the vocals from stereo recordings or output. However not by inverting the center channel because stereo has no center channel, but by inverting the phase of the left and right channels in relation to each other. The process has limited affect in most cases and it destroys stereo imaging. AnalogX Vocal Remover http://www.analogx.com/ is one such example.
