In Reply to: FOR THE LAST TIME...IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! posted by Andy P on August 31, 2001 at 12:38:25: in joint stereo mp3s, there are 3 channels: left, right, and center. the reason for the center channel is to hold the data that is similiar from both channels, cutting file size anywhere from 5/6 to 1/2 depending on the amount of similiarity. it is possible to extract this channel, leaving you only with what is left- or right-channel exclusive. the software (to the best of my knowledge) to do this does not exist, but since the mp3 STANDARD includes 3 channels in this manner, writing software that does this should not be difficult.
