I compose music using Finale and Guitar Pro 3, depending on whether I want to do it with standard notation or guitar tablature. Anyway, I'm looking to get better sounding instruments for when the music is played back. I want it to sound as real as possible, and I was wondering if any of you could reccomend either better sounding programs or ways to improve the quality of the instruments in the programs I currently have. Thanks!

Might I ask what type/kind of sound card you are using?

Hi Jared
The best way to improve on the sounds you currently have available is to acquire a "sampler". Whether you decide to buy a hardware model such as an Akai or a software model as either a stand-alone program or a plugin compatible with the soundcard or recording software that you use, is entirely up to you.
Once you have your sampler, it is then just a case of collecting as many sample sets as possible. There are hundreds of free ones available on the net ... in fact I have made one of my acoustic drum kit. It is available from the "free stuff" page of my site. I have 4 file versions available.
In the long run, of course, you get what you pay for in terms of the realism or recording quality of the samples. If your budget allows there are some extremely good sets available that cover every possible combination of instruments imaginable.
With a sampler, the sky's the limit! You will never have to worry about acquiring a certain instrument again, as there is invariably a sample of it somewhere that you can simply load into your sampler!
Happy sample hunting!

I know I can appreciatte your text ms. monk, but it sure would make it easier if you could give us some direction to find sampling equipment that you may recommend. It reads like you have used them...
