RockWorks Foundation has cancelled RockWorks Showcase, an online competition for unsigned bands, after they discovered some users had created multiple accounts in order to exploit the voting system.
"It has come to our attention that certain users have created multiple accounts for themselves in order to nominate a single artist, and these multiple accounts have been linked, in each instance, to a single credit card number and multiple, false email addresses" the front page of the Showcase website states.
"This activity is in direct conflict with the rules and spirit of Rockworks Showcase, and has impaired the integrity of the competition. As a public charity, we cannot allow such activity to continue unaddressed. In fairness to all of our artists, we are forced to cancel the current Rockworks Showcase, and remove the site from the web."
RockWorks is a charity which uses music and entertainment to engage youth and rebuild areas affected by disasters and extreme poverty. Launched August 26, Showcase was intended to benefit their Gulf Coast [re]Build Program.
RockWorks are now preparing a new Showcase competition with more efficient fraud-preventing mechanisms in place.
