|
|
For a two-week period in October, members of independent entertainment web magazine Randomville.com’s message boards will sacrifice their normal listening habits and submit to their worst musical nightmares. That's right, they're putting their most dispised tracks on REPEAT for a good cause.
The results will benefit The Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Family Endowment at The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia, which helps fund local and regional arts.
The idea stemmed from a poster who took it upon himself to disprove a recent media outlet’s listing of the ‘Worst Songs’ in rock, by listening to the song in question on repeat for many hours. The resultant message board postings were not only informative, but hilarious. One by one, other brave volunteers began posting songs they found difficult to personally listen to, and it was decided they’d mirror the original experiment by listening to their choices in an effort to gain pledges and raise money for charity.
Volunteers chose a day and time where they will play their torturous track on repeat for hours on end. Most will listen to their designated songs for up to eight to ten hours straight, though some sponsors have upped the ante by suggesting songs to increase the degree of difficulty. Participants are required to post their thoughts on how they survive the ordeal, with the most creative and interesting poster winning prizes.
Updates on the latest participants and outcomes may be found on the randomville.com messageboard: http://www.randomville.com/Daily/viewforum.php?f=512
The community has set a goal to reach $500 in pledges for its inaugural “Torturethon.”
