PG Music has announced the release of GuitarStar: Brent Mason Country, the first signature artist title in its popular GuitarStar series for computer guitar-playing fun and learning. In announcing the new release, PG Music President Peter Gannon said, "It’s been a thrill to work with an artist of Brent Mason’s calibre, and to feature his unique talents in the GuitarStar program. Brent is an incredible guitar player and a remarkable teacher."
Brent Mason has been Nashville’s first-call master session guitarist since the early 1990s, playing on dozens of famous hits by Country music’s top stars, as well as on movie soundtracks and television shows. His outstanding talent has been recognized as the six-time winner of the Academy of Country Music’s “Guitarist of the Year” award, and by The Country Music Association, which has twice awarded him its “Musician of the Year” CMA Award. For this special edition of GuitarStar, Brent Mason has recorded 150 of his own inventive and masterful licks. Styles like Chicken Pickin’, Honky-Tonk, Rockabilly, and many more are featured in over four hours of video and two hours of audio recordings. The licks are mapped to the computer’s keyboard so that GuitarStar plays a different lick when each computer key is pressed, seamlessly blending them into a dazzling Brent Mason guitar part to the accompaniment of included backing tracks. For the avid guitar player, the real fun is learning to play the licks. In more than four hours of close-up video tutorials, Brent Mason personally breaks down each riff note-by-note, explaining his special fingering and picking techniques. Repeated demonstrations, in slow motion and at regular speed, reveal Brent Mason’s mastery, aided by the powerful GuitarStar program.
GuitarStar plays the notes “live” on its large animated guitar fretboard display. Both standard notation and guitar tablature scroll by on-screen, and the notation and tablature can be printed out for practice away from the computer. The 150 audio licks can be paused, stepped through, repeated, and slowed down for in-depth study and practice.
