| Hi. I've been living on the Mac island for a while, and i've had enough so i'm moving to PC land. my question is what's the best way to transfer my stuff from Mac to PC. Mainly a lot of Pro Tools sessions and lots of audio (Wav, AIFF, MP3, AAC, etc.) and some video files. I write and edit soundtracks for film and tv. I heard there are some softwares out there that are good (i.e. CA's PC MacLan'). can anyone recommend one, preferrably reliable freeware, and/or perhaps there are other ways to do the transfer. burning onto dvd's is not an option as i have 2 External Lacie Drives full of hundreds of Gigs of data. THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE! |

| I usually transfer files between the two systems via LAN cable, which I find a very fast and comfortable way to do it. |

Yes, I also transfer files between my Mac and 3 PCs using a LAN. If you don't want to go to the expense and hassle of setting up your own Local Area Network, the only other option (provided both computers are connected to the internet) is to use FTP.
With FTP you will need to upload the files from the Mac to your remote server, then download them from the server using your PC. You will need an FTP client program to do this. There are a number of free programs available for PC, though I'm not sure about the availability of Mac versions.
If you don't use the services of a web hosting company, you may not have your own remote server. You will need to search the Intrernet for remote server access. There are bound to be some limited free services available.
Alternatively, you could use a free file posting sevice such as sendthisfile.com. However, with the number and size of files you want to transfer, you may have to use one of their subscription services.
BTW...ProTools bought out the "Rocket Network". They have a file transfer system available to their users. You may wish to make some enquires in relation to that.
I'm intrigued to know why you want to move from a Mac system, given the software that you have been using. The Mac is the industry standard professional platform for video/music production. Personally, I recently migrated in the other direction, from PC to Mac for my professional music production.
I just noticed that you mentioned that all your data is on external drives...could you not simply plug these drives into your PC?

Right on Beren, we covered that.
What I didn't understand was the guy saying "burning onto dvd's is not an option as i have 2 External Lacie Drives full of hundreds of Gigs of data"
