First timer here folks, and a newbie to MIDI, so please post answers in plain language that an old goat can understand, hopefully. I tried search here to find string for M1 reload but nothing. So short story is I bought a M1 needing new internal battery and a new key. I have done these fixes before so no prob. However, when I got it home and fired it up, it only played the piano sound on all channels, no other sounds. So I did the batt replacement and the key and am now at the point having downloaded the factory sounds to "midiox" on the 'puter hooked up the USB MIDI cables from Turtle Beach to the M1 followed the instructions to ready the M1 to receive the transmission, hit the send button, it starts sending but never gets there...Here are the instructions I followed after battery replacement and before transmit to ready the M1:
01. Unplug the M1 power chord.
02. Turn the M1 upside-down and remove the small phillips screws in the bottom.
03. The battery housing is beneath and attached to the large middle motherboard.
04. Carefully lift and tilt the motherboard up to expose the battery.
05. Push old battery down while pulling it out of the housing. Note its orientation.
06. Insert the new CR-2032 battery in the same orientation back into the housing.
07. Carefully replace the motherboard and screw the bottom plate back in position.
08. Plug in and power on the M1. “Init Program” appears in the M1’s display.
09. Set MIDI to “Enable”: GLOBAL, 5, +, UP, D, UP, F, UP, H, UP.
10. Set memory protects to “Off”: GLOBAL, 6, DOWN, +, B, DOWN, +, B, DOWN.
11. Sysex transfer original factory sounds from the “Factory” backup file.
OK folks, HEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP, please |

MIDIoX does not come configured so you do have to set up your MIDI in/out...did that already I am sure:)
In MIDIoX, You should be able to (IF ALL IS SET AS BELOW)
Select ACTIONS>SEND>SysExe File.
To reload the M1
================
1. Connect the MIDI OUT socket from your PC to the MIDI IN socket on the M1.
2. Turn on the M1 and set the basic MIDI CHANNEL TO 1(one)
(Global Midi Channel) and ensure that SYS-EX RECEIVE is enabled.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
(if you fail to do this, the reload procedure will not work!
3> SEND SysExe File using MIDIoX
4. When all data has been transmitted turn off the M1.
Then switch it back on again and check that the first program sound is I00: Universe.
5. If you followed the above correctly:
You should find that all factory sounds and demos have now been restored.
If NOT...lemme know where it failed and WHAT the error, if any, reads. |

Hi
Nothing much new to add except that the global channel number has to match on both M1 and MIDIox.
Also if you transmit while the M1 is displaying the data transfer page in the global mode the display should switch to "completed" when the file is successfully recieved. I also find with my M1 that it doesn't seem to work well when recieving sequencer sync data . eg. midi time code /start/stop/continue etc. If this is your problem maybe try to filter this info coming from the MIDIox (not familiar with the MIDIox myself)

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I'll post here to continue the discussion as I have the same problem only I was able to load the sound I00 Universe and no other voices. In MidiOx <send Sysx> I adjusted the delay to 500ms and checked the connections.
One thing I am not seeing on the M1 is the "Data Transfer Page" that Madmonk mentioned. Also, should the M1 be shown by name in the midi devices folder of MidiOx and my sound card SB Audigy2ZS ? The keyboard is able to play midi sent from the computer, but only with the corrupted voices I have, and I can play notes on my sound card using the M1.
Perhaps there is a better Sysx utility out there, anybody have a preference?
Thanks |

Hi again
I'm not familiar with the equipment you have but I'll try and help
first the data transfer pages are in the global mode also this is where you can set the sysex filter and global midi channel.
Sysex has to be enabled and the midi channel sending the data has to be the same as the global midi channel on the M1.
I've only ever done the transfer to and from an alesis datadisc unit when changing the battery in the M1.
If the data prog/combi page is on the display when the transfer takes place the display reads "completed" when the file is successfully recieved.
hope this helps |

I know this thread is as old as I am but I am having te same problem with the same setup. I managed to get the Universe sound but thats it. Now when I try to send another system exc from ox I get port is busy try later. So I wait till way later and nada?
Now my sounds are all screwy and gobilty gook on the display. The drums seem to have made it but no other sounds.
What in the world is a feller to do?
I will wait patiently for your expert response.
