I have been browsing this site for over 6 years now. Great job.
One quick question. I have tried couple of softwares like nuendo/protools/sonar etc. is ther any benchmark/score for the best among these in relation to performance and ease of use. |

I think you will find the answer yourself. What I mean is if you ask for opinion everyone will tell you what works best for them and their needs which may not be your needs. So you end up getting the DAW that other people want.
Sorry i am not being too helpful. I would look at which software has the features you need. Some are stronger in MIDI, others audio, some have soft synths that may be the reason you will buy. Also, what platform and OS that will also make the desicion easier.
You said you have tried all the demos. Which one do you like best? |

When people in sonically high places speak, they often mention ProTools as the industry standard in digital audio recording.
Those that are involved in sequencing often plug Cubase as the software of choice.
Sonar is leading the front with many home based users running this or some version of this companies software.
Like PCMS, I too believe you have to have an idea of what it is you are trying to achieve in recording and then match that up with what can the software do for you.
I too, have looked at the various applications available. Still do:) even though I am settled in with Sonar since 1999 and have no intention of leaving as of vs5 producer edition.
I do not believe that Sonar is the easiest to use nor was/is it the most intuitive for layout, flow and things of that nature. But I am use to it.
Fruity Loops can be a lot of fun but I do not record with it. Also, I have a valid copy of Tracktion that just lays around. It is easy as hell to use, prints whatever it hears and seems to mix up good and runs plugins / midi with no stutters/issues or problems.
Not everyone likes ice cream but then again, not everyone likes fried pork rinds either:) Make up your own menu and then go get an order filled! |

I just came over this post and I guess it is still of some interest for someone out there.
Instead of trying to be to deep into one o0r the other side I rather point out the diffirences.
Audio format.
Based on the 50 + album productions I have been involved with I have to say that I prefer SDII files over wav and aif. This might have to do with the file formats bitmapping.
SDII is as far as I know only available on the MAC platform.
So with that in mind my workflow has often been like this.
Start every project in Logic or DP
Transfere the audio to ProTools for final recording, editing and mix.
You will hear a huge difference in sonic quality on recordings done in DP or Logic ON Digidesign hardware compared with the same hardware ib PT.
So my suggestion for a single DAW program on MAC have to be Logic / DP OR Pro Tools.
My guess is that if you focus on audio recording only PT beats both Logic and DP by that I don't say that the midi environment in PT is bad just that Logic and DP seems easier to work with midi in.
On a PC... well that is why I ended up here in the first place.
I have tried Sonar and that is OK.
i have tried Nuendo and that is OK
I have tried PT but like that better on Mac (dunno why)
Cubase? well I left cubase years ago and don't even know if they still are doing any decent DAW software.
SO if I have to choose a DAW system for PC right now I guess I have to throw away windows and make my PC a Hackintosh
If I do a Hackintosh I\ll stick with Logic Studio on my home rig.
