I am a solo singer/guitarist, at the moment i run my backing tracks out of my laptop in to my mixer and out to my 1000wpathen to bass bins and speakers. I also mic up my amp and run that through the pa. I am going to get a Muti FX board soon and run that straight through the pa to get rid of my amp.

I heard there are some programs that let me run everything via my laptop and add effects to my vocals...etc (ie, harmonizer, tuning, compression etc) Also let you edit midi files as I use some midi files as well.

I have a budget of around £200. Any advice would be great, as I want to sound great with limited hassle.

You can definately find some good programs out there for a reasonable price.

Cubase SE
SONAR Home Studio
ACID

Would be good for recording, mixing, FX and MIDI playback. You shoudl grab some demos and see which works best for you.

I bought USINE from Sensomusic, it 's only 50euros!..
a very open software where you can plug and chain any VST to your voice, change your FXs in a single arrow click, work easily with midi files,
record on the fly, with a great audio engine...
here, your voice can even trigg VST synths, samplers, midi controlers!

i think it's a professional alternative for a low budget, so creative...
the free version is limited to 4 tracks but i guess it's the only limitation.
