I recently purchased a master series 7P for my personal use. I do not have the space for a full piano, & figured this would serve as a nice alternative. Now I have a really stupid question....How do you make it play sound? I have never dealt with electric keyboards of this caliber...only pianos...I was under the ludicrous impression I could just plug it in & play it. It did not come with an owners manual, and as the previous poster noted, I cannot find one online.

Thank you Rob - it worked, but I have only just managed to get back on to the website! Some problem with my profile!!!

By the way I found a 9V 2A power supply at Maplin and had to do some soldering to connect it to a 3-pin DIN plug.

I also bought one of these keyboards recently. It seems to be a heck of controller keyboard for it's time, but I need a manual for it. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi everyone, I bought a Master series 7P as a secondary keyboard to function with a Yamaha Tyros, and for about 15 minutes when I got it home it worked perfectly. That was untill the Enter/Save/Clear button stopped working. I have had the board out, and the button switch is functioning but I am asking if anyone has any knowledge about the circuit layout on the board, as it is really messing with my head now:roll:. I could also really use a manual if someone would be willing to e-mail me a copy (Presuming I fix the board fault Wink)

Oh and by the way sobxdiver, to answer your question the master series 7P has no speakers or headphone socket as you probably have noticed, this is because this keyboard operates entirely through a system called MIDI or Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Basically, when you press a key the keyboard creates a signal. This signal is then sent to either another MIDI compatible keyboard (one capable of stand alone operation, like the ones you see in the high street) or in more specialised cases to a designated MIDI controller, possibly through a PC if you want to record.

Its a bit of a tough one if you dont have another MIDI keyboard or instrument to play it with, but my advice is if you want to play it as a piano, find yourself a cheap midi compatible keyboard and a midi cable and connect them up. The quality of the sound will be influenced heavily by the quality of the machine that it is operating through. Old Roland and Yamaha machines can be found fairly cheap on ebay and will produce a surprisingly rich sound, compared to a cheap new machine.

Hope this helps.

John.

I recently rescued one of these from the scrapheap (thanks Jane). I remember 20 years ago, being sinfully jealous of someone who had the 5 octave version but there was no way I could afford one. It's a substantial piece of kit - it weighs more than I do - and it was made by hand in the days when things needed to be repairable. I've fixed problems with the electronics: liquid damage, leaky battery, bad connections, and although half of a key is missing all the notes work and it's now basically operational and playable.

My 7P came with a Sound Canvas II bolted to the top of it Very Happy and the combination can make some great sounds. Controls and footswitches work fine and I can change patch numbers from the keyboard. But this baby was made before they invented the word "user friendly"; you set it up by pressing buttons in sequence, and the combinations are not obvious to me. I think it should be possible to split the keyboard into zones with different patches, and maybe to send different information on all those midi outs, but I can't figure out how to do it. I'm sure it can do a lot more besides, but operating it seems to be a black art and I don't have a pointy hat.

I'm an engineer not a professional musician, but I get a lot of fun from my music and it would be nice to be able to use the keyboard properly. So if anyone out there has one of these or one like it, any help or guidance here would be appreciated.

If anybody (Big Johnny?) is trying to fix one of these and needs any help with voltage measurements or component values, I'll help out if I can.

Steve.

I have just acquired one of these and yep, you guessed... the chap selling it hasn’t got the manual.
I would be more than happy to remunerate anyone for their time and efforts
if you have a copy even in PDF format which you could let me have I would be very grateful.

Getting a manual for this now somewhat long in the tooth piece of kit is proving almost impossible.

Hi all,
Sorry to drag up an old thread. I've just been given one of these as I'd like to try to learn to play a little bit of piano / keyb. I'm a guitarist and I reckon that not only will this be fun but should help with music theory.

So, holmesr / audiomeister do you still have the manual? It'd be really great if you could email me a copy.

Many thanks.

Cheetah7,

I posted here back in November looking for any information on how to set up this keyboard properly, but I'm still looking. It would be really useful if you could post even a few pages with a list of what the button commands are and what they do. I will PM you with my email address in case you can send me something, but it would be great if there was a way to post the information so it's available to everybody.

Thanks in advance,
Steve.
