Hello everyone, I'm.... mark?

Right, i'm trying to get into some music editing/creating..

I've got a couple of pieces of softwear, nothing major..

I'm just trying to find something good for beginers.

The ability to cut parts of music out, vocals for instance (Or am i asking to much?)

Or being able to record and overlay onto a pre-made beat simply...

All above board please, All suggestions helpful, thanks.

Have you checked out what's available from Hitsquad yet?
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/

If you start with free apps you can learn the basics without time limitations.
Once you have a better idea of what you need you'll be better able to assess whether a commercial app is suitable for you.
Pro Tools and FL Studio are two good, but expensive, apps in this category.

Audacity is a multi-track audio recording and editing program.
It may be free but it's not a one click does all app.
It takes time to learn how to get the best out of this as with any audio editing app.

You may need Lame to encode to mp3:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/
Here's a tutorial to get you started:
http://www.guidesandtutorials.com/audacity-tutorial.html

To create pre made beats (loops) a free app to do this is Acid Xpress, the free, lite version of Sony Acid Pro.
Limited to ten tracks and without some functions of the commercial version it's still a good start.

Free Acid compatible loops from Macloops:
http://www.macloops.com/ Need to sign up but free.
More free loops:
http://free-loops.com/

You can use a combination of the two. Create the beats in Xpress, render them to wav or mp3 then add vocal tracks and edit etc in Audacity. You're only limited by your creative ability.

One advice I offer to beginners is to figure out a music lesson with a music instructor. I mean, if you go to a school for a subject, and go to a place for buying stuff, get a lesson.
