I'm looking for some software for cleaning some recordings that I've made, in particular removing a unwanted reference signal from a clean signal. Basically there's a lot of bleed from the drums (which are not isolated from the vox) into the vocal mic, which annoyingly has delay on it, so as well as getting drum bleed there's also delayed drum bleed!

The recording was from a radio show that we did, and I know the recording method has left a lot to be desired and we'll probably just end up rerecording the vox and eventually going to a studio when we can afford it, however out of interest I wanted to try and find out if there was a tool for mastering engineers that would allow you to remove bleed and even delayed bleed from a clean signal. Does anyone know of a tool that can do this?

I know that there exist classical 'textbook' algorithms to do exactly this (i.e. it's used in pilot cockpits to remove the sound of the delayed sound of the engine from the pilots microphone or in noise cancelling headphones) but it seems to me that this might be a useful tool for a mastering engineer as well!

Thanks in advance!
Very Happy

I don't know of one off the top of my head - but there are some possible candidates in the Noise Reduction/Restoration area of this site.

Thanks Jason, I've downloaded the sound laundry and dyvision reverb remover demos. It strikes me that the technique they use for removing reverb might be similar to that for removing delay. I'll try them both and let you know how it goes. Cheers, Sam
