Hi Melissa,
I liked your post it has some great advice in there I was just wondering one thing since I have been making music for a long time and everybody I talk to like it I am always well received and am now at the point where I have a multitude of original tracks but I am finding that I would greatly benefit from having a manger is that something you can seek out or do managers normally find you? |

| Hey, my name is Kisha. I'm 18 and just graduated from high school about a month ago. I love writing songs and poetry. i have been researching the steps to become a songwriter all day. I'd love to become a singer and songwriter and I'm willing to go through the steps it takes to fulfill that dream. But i was wondering, how exactly do you find a manager? I was also wondering if, when or if you have time available, would you consider reading one or a few of my songs, and possibly give me some feedback on them? My friends, family and some teachers have read them and really enjoyed them, but it'd be nice to have some feedback from someone who has never met me before, if that is at all possible. |

Thanks so much Melissa! I'm 15, and am thinking of sending a demo to Sony music canada and CP records.... What should i put in the package though? For cp records, im sending the demo through email, and sony music canada by mail. other than the music, what else is required?
And I only have 2 original songs that I composed so far, would that be enough for a demo, and to get me signed to those record labels?
Thanks! Can I also email you at divastar870@yahoo.com in case you're no longer reading this discussion forum (its like kinda old now, wish I'd found it earlier) It was really helpful though
THANK YOU! |

You should include a Biography (also called a Bio) which has some background information about you and your singing career to date, as well as your contact details - include your phone number and address. Make sure you also include a good photograph of yourself. |

If you really want to support your family with singing then the most reliable way of doing this is to join a working covers band - either as a main singer or backup singer.
You can find bands in your area looking for singers through classifieds or websites like http://www.musiciansavailable.com/
I hope this helps. |

Hi my name is Alexander, i am 17 (male) and I live in the UK, used to live in Harare, Zimbabwe, and have loved music since the age of 5, but since the age of 14 i decided i wanted to make a proper and well established career out the art. I have been told i am good and have a natural talent by my music teachers, family and friends and also my instrumental tutors. I am currently in my last year of high school and after hope to peruse music afterwards. My plan is to go to college to get a HND in music performing and how the music industry works for about 2 years, but I was originally wanting to go to university to do the same thing but get a BA Hons (Bachelor of Arts Honours) as i feel managers and record labels would appeal to you if you have a qualification in the art, but the university course lasts 4 years and and the college lasts 2. I am tired of waiting to create, perform music and put, what i feel is a talent or gift, to good use and do something with it. I have always wanted to experience living in America and looking at going to Nashville to persue country, rock/pop. I was also looking at just taking a year or two out and just focus on getting money, performing at anything an everything, practising music constantly, write music and just try to find a manager to listen to my demos and and hopefully get signed my a record label. I will hopefully have moved to Nashville by then as being in the UK wanting to get signed by an American record company like 'Big Machine Records' will be challenging and probably impossible and there isn't a huge market for country artists in the UK.
I was formally introduced to performing and knowing more about music when I moved to Scotland (UK) in 2007 and was one of 4 to get chosen to play a musical instrument that we would start in our first year of high school. The instrument I played was a saxophone, but I then moved onto clarinet which was and is still an instrument that I regret playing but i have persisted with as i have to be able to play 2 instruments at grade 5/6 for my first year of A-level exams and was told by the examiner that i have an extraordinary, individual and nicest voice he had heard since traveling round to different schools in Scotland, the clarinet has also taken me to new places in music and joined Borders Youth Orchestra when I was 13. I enjoyed the music experience of performing to an audience and controlling someone's emotions just using sound. This has then moved me on to wanting to learn more instruments to do with the genre of music I want to get into which is country, pop/rock, and also Pop. I can play guitar, piano and have just started banjo and I'm hoping to get vocal lessons. I am dead serious about this and know that is what I am wanting to do.
My questions for you are how do you stop fraud or someone stealing your music on the websites you listed? What should I do after school and how does someone get signed by and American record label and managed by an American manager if you live in the UK?
Please tell me about anything else I haven't listed.
Thank you very much
