I have just brought a tuscam digital 4 track portastudio 564 and was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a manual from because i did not get one. If any one could help it would be great... :D

have you been already succesful?
im in the same dillema... have tsacams portastudio with no manual, which would be a great help.

three questions:
1. how to activate the coax output ( i wanna make masterrecording on sony mds je530, which has coax input, but whenever i connect it i do not get a signal on my sony mds :-(

2. its possible to play minidisks (74 or 80min) and its also possible to record on track 1 and 2. Is it also possible to bounce forward track 1 to track two? Then it should be possible to run the machine with normal minidisc which would hlp to save a lot of money

3. recording direct from the session with microphon in the session room. Im not satisfied with the quality of sound which i get. someone recommended to invest in a large diaphragme microphone. All of these microphones need 48V phantompower. Does the xlr connections of my TAscam provide this type of power?

It would be interesting to hear about your experiences with htis equipment and to learn how others are working and struggling

thank you for your comment

I went to www.tascam.com and they had a manual you could purchase.

Maybe reading the following pages will help:

A few answers:

I wouldn't mess with the "coax" ins/outs until I knew what the unit will actually do.

The recorder does not have phantom power, you will require a pre-amp for this, BUT you do not "need" a large diaphragm microphone.

The idea is that a large dia mic. will capture and reproduce sound better. This is true. It will also capture a shitty room sound, change rattling in your pockets and the tv playing in another room, maybe your neighbors room:)

A simple vocal mic will work for this unit.
