I am trying to control faders on ableton on an ibook g4 with a roland 1880 via midisport 1x1. Is this possible, and if so, how can I set it up?

I think you should be able to do it if the VS sends out midi controller messages from it's midi port. I think you might have to figure it's MIDI MAP MODE out as it appears that you can 'learn' midi controllers from different devices using that mode.
