View Original Thread: LP recording to CD

hoodwink

A new subject for me but not for most of you. I'm trying record LPs into my computer and then later to CD. I have a preamp plugged into the soundcard input and sometimes it records but only small pieces and most of the time, I can't find them if they are there. Do I need an interface box and software? Would appreciate any help.

Only small pieces? What software are you using to record as that may be the problem?

Well, I'm not using any software that I know of. Do you know of a program? What about any additional hardware between the turntable and the audio input port on the sound board?
Thanks

For software check out Sping It Again: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SpinIt/ or LP Recorder: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/LPRecorder/

The phono signal level Out is not going to be leveled up by using a preamp. The phono has to be plugged into an amplifier just to "get it" to a line level.

And I don't mean a guitar amp either:)

Essential what you are doing NOW is running a line out of WhiteNoise to a PreAmp that brings the level of WhiteNoise up...

After you plug it into a "stereo amplifier" I recommend plugging into the computer WITHOUT the preamp. If you need the Preamp use it, but check it FIRST because you run CONSIDERABLE risk of blowing out a perfectly good sound card.

You can check here at HitSquad for FREE recording software like http://www.kreatives.org/

Thanks.
