A Fairlight CMI keyboard is being auctioned off on ebay. The Fairlight CMI was the world’s first digital sampler and featured other radical advances for the time, including a light pen interface and menu-driven GUI. The CMI hit the height of its popular frenzy among the artist community when it was featured in a now-legendary performance by Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Thomas Dolby and Howard Jones at the 1985 Grammy Awards. If you go to the bidding page, you can see a you tube embedded video of this performance.

The keyboard features signatures from 44 celebrity musicians, composers & producers and does not come with an "engine". It is not intended to be played. The auction ends December 11th, at 915pm eastern and is being held simultaneously along wiht the second annual benefit dinner and concert in support of Witness, a human rights organization co founded by musician and activist Peter Gabriel.

There is already a bid of $100,000! Go to ebay.com/witness to check it out. All the money raised will benefit Witness.
