I received an email today from a small record label saying that they would like advice on how to get their music into video games.
The only advice I was able to think of was to contact the companies that produce video games such as Sony, Atari/Williams, EA Sports etc. You can find a comprehensive list of games and who makes them via The Entertainment Software Rating Board website at http://www.esrb.org/esrbratings.asp
Does any body else have any further advice or better ideas or even links to better resource websites about video game producers?

From my brief encounter with software companies, the music/soundtracks are almost always done in-house (unless they want a tie-up with a specific artist). I was told that this was due to the legal problems than can occur when music from outside is used in the game.

Here is a good interview for those interested in working with music for games... it was done with the Rare Music Team... who developed games such as Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. While it doesn't exactly answer your question, they do offer a lot of good tips and advice, and they talk about the software and instruments they use as well....
