View Original Thread: Free music notation software

I'm writing a song on what I suspect will be a one-off basis, so I want to get some free (or else very cheap) music notation / score writing software, rather than paying the £600 Sibelius seem to want to charge. Wikipedia gives me a whole list of free software possibilities, so I don't really know where to start. Has anyone got experience of them?

Being free, I'm aware that they're going to be fairly limited in their capabilities, but as long as I can write for a vocal soloist, 4 voice parts and a keyboard / organ (with lyrics for the vocal parts), I'm not worried about the more complicated stuff you'll get on paid-for software. I'll also need to be able to listen to the music back, and print either to pdf or jpeg or equivalent, or directly to a printer. Being able to produce a midi file would help, but is not essential.
