I want to record using my recently reprogrammed Korg M1 (downloaded original M1 sounds) and Cubase LE4 Music Production Software. The Cubase program was included with a purchased Lexicon Alpha Desktop Recording Studio. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1000 with 512 of RAM. I have been successful at recording audio ( voice and acoustic guitar via microphone) but not successful at trying to record using the M1. My first question is, do I use only the same midi interface ( M-Audio Midisport Uno [1-in/1out usb to midi interface]) to communicate from the M1 to the computer that I used to download sounds from the computer to the M1? When I tried this, the lights on the midi interface indicated that a signal (generated when depressing M1 keys) was traveling through the midi interface but there was no indication of it arriving at Cubase. I tried various VST audio systems and other adjustments, but no avail.
So I connected according to the Lexicon Alpha instructions which showed connecting cord being inserted into the "instrument" input via RCA connector on the Lexicon. I inserted the other end of the cord into the "1/1" RCA output computer via hole on the M1 (since I couldn't figure out where else to put it). The Lexicon Alpha was connected to the computer via USB. Through the headphones I immediately heard much background noise, no matter whether the headphones were hooked up to the Lexicon or the M1. On the Cubase mixer, the audio activity meter reacted to my pressing of keys on the M1, so I assume a signal was reaching the Cubase. But an effort to record yielded no recording of sounds from the M1. Once again I tried various VST audio systems but to, alas, no avail.
I realize that my problems are specific to my equipment, but I'm hoping that there is someone out there who immediately recogizes the solutions to my problems and will be kind enough to save me from the looney bin.
Thanks
Brien
