Hiya, I play the piano and I am trying to improve my playing from ear abilities. I have a CD of some piano playing but can't hear the left hand very well, so I want to cut out what the right hand is playing from the recording. Does anyone know of a piece of software where you can select a pitch range to delete from the recording (since all the right hand is played above middle C on this piece and all the left hand below middle C).

I have Audacity but can't find any way of doing this!

Any help greatly appreciated.

It is not possible to delete a specific range of frequencies from a recording.
Only the intensity of frequencies can be varied.
Using a graphic equalizer a range of frequencies can be cut or boosted.
Boosting the lower frequencies and cutting the highs should enable you to distinguish the lower register a little more.
Even at maximum boost and cut the difference may not be sufficient.
The frequency range (lowest to highest) of a piano is small compared to the range of frequencies detectable by human hearing.

Is it a stereo solo studio recording?
Two microphones are usually used to produce a stereo sound field.
Neither microphone is purely right hand or left hand. There is an overlap of frequencies detected and recorded by either mic.
Muting the right track once imported to Audacity might work. The right hand track will still be audible but of lesser intensity.
If the recording is mono using the equalizer is the only option.
