if i use say musicrenamer could i put a mp3 disc in will it fill in missing artists track etc and keep the info when i EJECT the disc. so i can search my database without using the discs.

The best place to look is http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/CATALOGING/

As an example - Helium may be what you're looking for - http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/helium/
